Minnesota Timberwolves guard Sebastian Telfair has been suspended without pay for three games for pleading guilty to a weapons possession charge in the state of New York, the NBA announced Tuesday.

The suspension comes a year and a half later because he was recently sentenced to three years’ probation for misdemeanor possession of a loaded handgun, speeding and driving without a license.

The suspension is for the first three games he’s healthy and eligible, which presumably will be the opener against Sacramento and games against Dallas and at Oklahoma City.

"I've talked to Sebastian about the incident," Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale said in a statement. "This is something that happened in the past, and he is looking forward to putting this behind him. Since he has been a member of the Timberwolves, Sebastian has been a great teammate and has been actively involved in the community. I couldn't be more proud of Sebastian's continued improvement as a basketball player and as a young man."

Telfair, who came to Minnesota in the July 2007 trade that sent Kevin Garnett to Boston, is in Chicago with the Wolves for tonight's exhibition game against the Bulls.
