They also lost shooting guard Mike Miller when he reinjured his right ankle with 6 minutes, 44 seconds to play in the first quarter of a 109-102 loss to the Houston Rockets.

That's the same ankle that cost Miller four games earlier this month, and Wolves coach Kevin McHale said, "Mike sprained his ankle pretty good, I think."

Asked how long he might be out, McHale said: "It's pretty hard to say. We'll know more tomorrow."


Besides, we are on the verge of a historic event. These Wolves can make history, and you can say you saw it. The lads are just four defeats away from a franchise-record 16 in a row. Chances are fans never will see another Wolves team in position to attack the record book so ferociously, assuming Glen Taylor cleans house in the front office next season.

Minnesota lost its 12th in a row to the Houston Rockets on Saturday night. Afterward, coach Kevin McHale had that same tortured look previously worn by Randy Wittman.

The Target Center is one of the NBA venues fans are avoiding in droves this season. Average attendance there is just 13,727, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, as of Wednesday. Official attendance on Nov. 5 was 11,112, but that had to be the count of tickets sold. If there were more than 7,000 inside, on a relatively balmy night, by Minnesota standards, well, let’s just say the crowd counter would also have reported, if asked, that I have a full head of hair.


Timberwolves assistant general manager Fred Hoiberg attended the weekend's Stadium Shootout, which featured Brigham Young-Arizona State in the second game at University of Phoenix Stadium. Arizona State's James Harden and Louisville's Earl Clark are projected as lottery picks in next summer's NBA draft.

Hoiberg wouldn't say which players he was watching, but he said the team clearly has numerous needs.
