The Timberwolves' new head of basketball operations had his scheduled dinner meeting with Kevin McHale on Tuesday night, but the coach's future with the team remains uncertain.

David Kahn, who was hired Friday, confirmed the meeting but otherwise had no comment.

With Kahn scheduled to leave this morning for a three-day NBA draft combine in Chicago, a decision on McHale likely will have to wait until at least next week.

One very important hurdle was cleared this week, and that was keeping the executive team in tact. Assistant GM Tom Penn was offered a position with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and after much consideration, made the decision to stay in Portland.

Myles Brown/SLAM Online selects Demar DeRozan for the Timberwolves in Slam's mock draft.
Though there is still debate about whether Minnesota got the better player in the Mayo/Love swap, the deal enabled them to unload troublesome contracts, gain maneuverability under the salary cap and add another valuable component to a promising roster. Time has shown it to be a prudent move.

However for those who think it wasn’t, the Wolves can offer a mea culpa this June by drafting a dynamic guard out of USC who is primed to fill their need for a slasher.

Chad Ford/ESPN on Syracuse guard Jonny Flynn:
Over the past few weeks, a number of GMs seem to have been warming to Flynn and he looks like a potential lottery pick at the moment. A number of teams in the lottery including the Kings (No. 4), the Wizards (No. 5), the Timberwolves (No. 6), the Warriors (No. 7), the Knicks (No. 8), the Bucks (No. 10), the Pacers (No. 13) and the Suns (No. 14) all need point guards. And after speaking with at least one source from every team, I learned Flynn is in the mix for all of them.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have three first round picks in the upcoming NBA draft and they will begin bringing through several college prospects to Target Center. This year there's a new twist: Several NBA teams will come to Minneapolis to watch the same prospects at the same time. The idea is to cut down on travel and to be able to watch multiple players at the same time.
