Rubio now resigned to the fact that Minnesota will be his destination if he's able to get out of his contract - http://tinyurl.com/mk7ese

The Minnesota Timberwolves are the only team in the NBA without a head coach in place for next season and David Kahn is in no hurry to fill the position.

Kahn, the team's new president of basketball operations, told The Associated Press in a text message Wednesday that he plans to wrap up his first round of interviews on Thursday and there is no timetable set for a final decision to be made.

Rockets assistant Elston Turner and Portland assistant Monty Williams are the only two candidates who have publicly acknowledged interviewing for the job. ESPN analyst Mark Jackson is also considered a candidate because of his ties to Kahn when both were with the Indiana Pacers.

From the Pioneer Press: Rookie Jonny Flynn says Timberwolves better team with Ricky Rubio
On whether he would like to see fifth overall pick Ricky Rubio playing beside him: "That's something I can't handle (because it's not up to him to decide Rubio's fate). If he were to come in and play beside me, we'd be a better team. He's going to make our team that much better. I'd love to have him by my side, making me better."

On who would be the Wolves' point guard, him or Rubio:
"You see the NBA going to two point guards at the same time. I think we would just be labeled as guards. I don't think we'd have a position."

I happened to check out some highlights of the Timberwolves on NBATV to see what former Wizards Oleksiy Pecherov has been up to. I noticed that Pecherov is starting at center for the Timberwolves. Last night during a 96-91 loss to that powerhouse known as the D-League Select team, Pecherov had 15 points (on 5 of 11 shooting, 3 of 4 from three-point range) with 10 rebounds, one blocked shot and ... you guess it, zero assists. He gets buckets, son. Through the first two games, Pesh is averaging 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.

Pecherov is also wearing No. 4 for the Timberwolves. Pesh wore No. 14 with the Wizards because the number he really wanted (41, in honor of his favorite player, Dirk Nowitzki) is retired for some guy named Wes Unseld. I wondered why he didn't get 41 in Minnesota, then I saw that the last player to wear that number for the Timberwolves was Eddie Griffin, who died in a tragic automobile accident two years ago.
