The Los Angeles Clippers have reached an agreement in principle to trade guard Quentin Richardson(notes) to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Sebastian Telfair(notes), Mark Madsen(notes) and Craig Smith(notes), leagues sources said Monday.

The trade is expected to be finalized later Monday.

It is all about getting a $9 million expiring contract in return. It also provides a legit SG for next season.

I don't know if I'd call QRich anything approaching a legit starting point. What it does is clears up some roster spots and makes it crystal clear that Kahn believes Rubio is going to be in camp.

I'm thrilled Madsen is gone (when he tanked that game a little piece of me died) and am also pleased that I won't have to watch all six-six of Craig Smith make an ulready undersized frontline more so.

Anybody concerned with how Q-Rich will fit in with The Wolves basketball-wise is missing the point. He’s an over-paid, expiring contract who nets us two open roster spots and saves us $2.7M on the 2010-2011 salary cap and clears the way for Rubio/Flynn to battle it out with Telfair out of the picture.
