From Don Seeholzer/Pioneer Press:
Timberwolves fans anxiously awaiting the hiring of a coach likely will have to hold on until the end of the week, at the earliest.

Wolves owner Glen Taylor, chairman of the NBA's board of governors, will be in New York today for a meeting between the league's labor committee and players union and has board meetings scheduled through Thursday.

That makes Friday the first day Taylor likely will be able to sit down with a prospective coach, which Wolves president of basketball operations David Kahn has said will precede any hire.

ESPN/ABC analyst Mark Jackson, Los Angeles Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis and Houston assistant Elston Turner are the finalists.

Taylor said Monday that he could end up meeting with one or more, "depending on how they are stacked up."

From Sean Deveney/The Baseline: NBA Offseason Still Has Unanswered Questions
The Timberwolves’ future.  Despite a visit to Spain from general manager David Kahn, there’s been little movement in Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio situation—Rubio’s Spanish team, DKV Joventut, is holding the line on his buyout, which is too steep to be covered by his NBA contract. Rubio has few options and has been fielding offers from other European teams. Meanwhile, back in Minnesota, it has been seven weeks since the Timberwolves let go of Kevin McHale, and the team has been coach-less since. Kahn has interviewed just about everyone who has had even a remote interest in NBA coaching as a career, and has apparently gotten down to three candidates: ESPN analyst Mark Jackson, Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis and Rockets assistant Elston Turner. As Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said over the weekend, “I’m under the assumption that, if things go good, that in the next week or so we’ll make a decision on the coaching.”

Yahoo! Sports reports that free-agent Timberwolves forward Shelden Williams has agreed in principle to a one-year contract with the Boston Celtics.

Williams averaged 4.9 points in 15 games with the Wolves last season after being acquired from Sacramento at the trade deadline as part of a deal that sent Rashad McCants to the Kings.
