Kahn said he extended Love and Brewer because he is convinced both players have the desire and work ethic to want to be great.

He did also because he said he believes Brewer will become a better shooter.

"I do," he said. "Not today. It'd be way too premature to suggest that he will ever become a natural shooter or a prolific shooter. But as he and I have discussed very candidly, he has to become a reliable shooter in this league or he won't play. He's a wing. Backcourt player in this league, if you can't shoot from the outside, you just won't play.

Kahn said Monday's moves haven't painted the team into a corner.

"I don't want this to be some sort of signal that we will trade Corey, because I don't believe that, but I do believe this is a trader's league right now," he said. "And I believe as we demonstrated this summer, you can move players if need be. So I don't look at this decision today on Nov. 3 as saying, 'This is the cap number we'll have next summer.'

"I believe there are all kinds of possibilities that can occur with this team, particularly when you frame it from the standpoint that Kurt and I are still ... have a lot of evaluation and learning to do about this team."

On Monday, the first task for Rambis upon arriving at Staples Center was finding the right locker room. He said he asked where it was. The place does look a little different from last June.

"I was a little surprised," he said. "I haven't been here since they put up the faux paneling" in the hallways.
