That's Right, It's Time to Call the Whaaaaaaambulance!

Written by Derek Hanson on .

There’s nothing quite like watching your team climb back from a fifteen-point deficit, only to have a terrible, terrible call ruin the whole thing.  It ranks right up there with Nickleback, root canals, and getting kicked in the no-no’s.  So needless to say, I’m not very happy at the moment.

Minnesota Timberwolves: So Close, but not So Far

Written by Derek Hanson on .

This article appears on www.derok.net/wolves.  I think it brings some perspective on the first half of the season with some interesting statistics.

After watching the Timberwolves squander a five point lead with a minute to go last night and lose their sixth consecutive game in a row, one thing was painfully clear:  The Wolves need some serious mental conditioning.

Timberwolves Fire Dwane Casey

Written by Derek Hanson on .

Typical.

The Timberwolves finally make the move that everyone’s been waiting a year for in firing Dwane Casey, and the national media are tearing them to shreds.  ESPN’s abuzz with questions of why the Timberwolves, a consensus pick for the lottery, would fire their coach when they’re at .500 and currently locked in for the 8th spot in the West.  These types of questions and arguments further cement the fact that the talking heads at ESPN are slightly lacking in the brain department.

Kevin Garnett Ejected by Refs, Ricky Davis Ejected by Poop

Written by Derek Hanson on .

I inexplicably forgot to TiVo last night’s game versus the Pistons.  While it probably did a lot of good for my blood pressure, that mishap cost me the thrill of a double-overtime game, a fight, and a first-hand look at what is undoubtedly the biggest Wolves’ drama since Latrell Sprewell’s “Feed the Children” campaign.

Where Have I Been?

Written by Derek Hanson on .

For those of you who visit this site on a frequent basis, you’ve probably noticed a significant drop-off in the number of blog posts lately.  The truth is, when I envisioned this site I figured that I would only update it when I had something valuable to say.  Then two months later, I found myself making 5-6 posts a day and spending waaaaay more time on this blog then I’d ever counted on.  So I’m making a concentrated effort to cut back.  I figure most of you know where the Strib and Pioneer Press can be found, so you really don’t need me reposting articles and links to there on a daily basis.  So from now on, I’m only planning on posting when I feel the post will truly add something.

Kevin Garnett: "A Late Game Choker?"

Written by Derek Hanson on .

This article appears at The Minnesota Timberwolves Den at DeROK.Net

Over the course of the past week, Kevin Garnett has taken four “game-winning” shots in the final seconds.

He’s only hit one.

Sam Cassell - "When Aliens Attack"

Written by Derek Hanson on .

Sam Cassell Returns to Minnesota Tonight

Sam Cassell just may be the most controversial player in Timberwolves history.  That’s saying a lot considering we’ve had run-ins with the likes of J.R. Rider, Stephon Marbury, Latrell Sprewell, and most recently, Eddie Griffin.  What separates Sam Cassell from those other “bad dudes” is that he has a small following who happen to love him.

I’m one of them.

It's a "Team" Thing for the Timberwolves

Written by Derek Hanson on .

Don’t look now, but the Minnesota Timberwolves are undefeated since the return of the old leather ball and in 2007!  We’ll see how long that streak holds up, but the Wolves current 4-game winning streak, which featured 3 consective ovetime victories, has catapulted the team into the playoff picture.  The Wolves are currently 2nd in the Northwest Division and 7th in the West.  If they can keep this level of play up, the playoffs are a guarantee, and a nice seed wouldn’t be out of the question.

Timberwolves Quarterly Update: "Irregularly Irregular"

Written by Derek Hanson on .

This article appears on www.derok.net/wolves:

Over the years, I’ve managed to make a large number of analogies to the Timberwolves.  There have been references to movies like Rocky IV, The Shawshank Redemption, and even Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  I’ve related the Wolves to songs from U2 and Dave Matthews Band.  But for the first time, I’m going to put my med-school education to use and make a medical analogy to sum up the Wolves current situation.  Because the 2006-2007 Minnesota Timberwolves share astounding similarities with atrial fibrillation.

Timberwolves Countdown #1 - "Redemption"

Written by Derek Hanson on .

Down 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals, the Timberwolves were a game away from elimination and the end of the best season in franchise history.  Our hopes for a championship were dangling by a thread as the odds continued to mount against us.  So I wrote this piece as an encouragement for my fellow fans and the players to keep believing.  Of course the Wolves ultimately fell and our title dreams came to an end.  But the one thing that didn’t was our hope that one day we’d get to see Kevin Garnett hoist that trophy into the air.
