Former Timberwolves teammates Kevin Garnett and Joe Smith (now a Cavalier) always get together to honor their late teammate Malik Sealy each time they play against each other.

Sealy was killed in a Minneapolis suburb May 20, 2000, while driving home from Garnett's birthday party when his SUV was struck by a drunken driver's pickup truck traveling the wrong way down the highway.

"Even now, in this series, when I check into the game we have a certain greeting for each other," Smith said. "We both have a tattoo of Malik Sealy on our arms from when he passed away. So we touch the tattoos together and give each other a little brief hug. We are pretty close.

Smith said he thought Phengsene “got off too easy,” after the incident. He has since been charged in two more drunken-driving cases.
One came in October 2006. Then, on March 30, 2008, Phengsene was arrested in Minneapolis on suspicion of drunken driving.
He was sentenced to another eight years in prison on April 28.

The Timberwolves, who have the Nos. 31 and 34 picks in June's NBA draft, have had five front-office officials scouting in Europe since the end of the regular season, and it's a good bet that at least one, or both picks, could be used on overseas prospects.

Meet grandmother Ruth Martin. Today, Foye -- who still lives in New Jersey in the offseason -- will have a party in his back yard for Martin, and for Betty Foye, his other grandmother. Together, they kept Foye on the right path.

"She was so important," Foye said of Martin. "She showed me the ins and outs of being a man, which I needed because there wasn't a role model around me at the time. She showed me how to treat people, how you treat a woman, things like that."

In hoops news, NBA rookies Al Horford and Taurean Green are back on Florida's campus this month taking classes during the Summer A session. Corey Brewer wanted to come back, too, but his offseason workout schedule with the Timberwolves prevented it.
