Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman said all his assistant coaches
will return for the 2008-2009 season. ... Corey Brewer and Chris
Richard, the two top draft choices last year, will start summer
workouts soon, with other players to follow later. Wittman said the
club will start bringing in draft candidates June l.
Point guard Randy Foye, assistant coach Ed Pinckney and athletic
trainer Gregg Farnam have been asked by the NBA to participate in this
year's Basketball Without Borders program.
Foye and Pinckney will go to Turkey in June, and Farnam will go to India in July.
The millions of dollars doled out to professional athletes, including
some native Chicagoans, doesn't shield them from the perils ofstreet
violence and brazen home invasions.
When it comes to targeted armed attacks or random assaults, the list of victims in the last 10 months with local ties includes Antoine Walker, Eddy Curry and, most recently, Rashard Mendenhall.
