If the Celtics re-sign Ray Ray for anything more than somewhere around the vet minimum they are crazy.

He was absolutely awful except for Game 2. LVP. He might be done, not because he can't play anymore, but psychologically.

Come on, he's worth a little more than the vet's minimum, let's get real here. His D on Kobe was rather impressive overall.

Ray is worth more to the Celtics than he is anyone else. He's part of the core that just lost in a tightly played finals. I'd give him a 2 year deal (aligns with KG and Sheed).

I should note that not even a month ago I was mocked (Roundhouse/CW) for saying if the Bulls signed LeBron and Bosh they'd be better off without Ray Allen (only so many shots). If he was on that team he'd be left wide open and he'd be forced to take like 12 shots a game.

I said the Bulls should sign him for the minimum... not what he's looking for. Yeah, he's "done" in terms of what he had to do for the Celtics this season. They were asking too much from him. He'd be ideal on that super Bulls team with Bosh/Wade/Rose/Noah...

He could just stand there and shoot wide open, wouldn't even have to play much defense.

Tony Allen's D on Kobe was better, and he wasn't out there clanking wide open shots every other time down the court.

Ray was done for a few weeks in 2008. Then he was done in those finals. I'm guessing next year will be more of the same except with an extra week or two of done-ness creeping in.

That is still worth 2/10M to the Celtics. If they can put a guy like James Anderson behind him to learn the ropes and continue to lower his impact when he is off his game and take minutes it'd be ideal.

Ray adjusted from 2008 to now and I think he'll do it again to remain a starter for the next couple of years. He is just so fit and savvy.

If what Ray was doing was defense we should be critical of then there aren't too many good defenders in the league. He was solid 1 on 1 and always in the mix helping and in transition. How many times were OTHER players picking up bad fouls on plays were Ray slapped the ball away cleanly at the same time?

This is different than 2008 when he sucked for a few weeks. He has Jerry Stackhouse-itis. Just can't shoot the ball whatsoever. He could still be decent but he won't ever be as good again.

I agree with pants...Ray is worth bringing back for 2 yrs even above vet mins. He still is a valuable commodity and can catch fire at any moment. I know his finals were terrible...but how much do you think Ray guarding Kobe took away from his offense? I'd say if they can get another defender to give T.Allen a blow against the other guys top scorer.

James Posey reunion tour?

I don't think it is different so much as he's further down the hill.. The valleys will be deeper and longer over the course of the season.

He'll work hard enough not to go off a cliff like Stackhouse.

First off, welcome to TWB Real Shaq... I love your site!

Secondly, Ray Allen is still useful in some situations, and especially for the cohesion of that squad. I guess it makes sense for them to give him a 2 year deal for like $10 million (would NOT pay anything more.) I don't think I would give him that much, but it does make sense. Maybe they can make one last hurrah with their current squad, who knows. But they need someone behind Allen asap. He can't keep playing as many minutes as he has been the past few years.

Ha! Thanks!! I used to post in the TWB forums under 'whiskeydizzy' way back when...2007 i think? Gawd, its been a long @$$ time.

Anyway, nice to see some of the same handles from before.

Ray Allen should come back to the Celtics for all the reasons you listed, CW. However, do you think Doc will be back? I remember how terrible everyone thought he was...and now his decision is key for if the Celts blow up the team or if they give it one more shot.

I think the fans deserve one or two more years out of this Celtics group. Please?

I hate this thread. Ray Allen and KG are the best players in the league. You're all full of poop.

At least we know Ray (Shuttlesworth) has a acting career waiting for him after his career ends...

Perfect place for Bradley. He would have been lost on a bad team where he needed to start or be counted on for offense.

Exactly. So they aren't bringing back Nate Robinson? Some team will probably overpay Nate in free agency, since sooooo many teams have so much cap space.
