Angels and Demons

This movie was pretty good. I definitely liked it better than The DeVinci Code.

What is cool in the books is how Langdon moves from puzzle to puzzle figuring them out just in the nick of time. In book terms they are very fast paced.

Neither movie figured out how to give enough information about the puzzle to engage the viewer in them. Clearly you can't just have Langdon talking and talking about them but I have a feeling there could have been some device that made that aspect work.

My other beef is that I just can't feel like Tom Hanks is Robert Langdon. I read the 3rd book after seeing DeVinci Code and I wasn't picturing him as Hanks. Hanks certainly doesn't nail the role like Harrison Ford did Indiana Jones (not counting Crystal Skull).

All that said the over arching story of Angels and Demon is good enough to make it worth a watch. Ewen McGregor actually nailed his part. More playing Priests and less Jedi, Ewen.

Yeah, it's definitely better than the De Vinci Code. No doubt.
They clearly just got Hanks to play the part because of name recognition for DVC. And so then for this movie they couldn't really have a new guy play the role. I didn't like Hanks for the part either.

I really liked the book, but there's just no way that all the info necessary could be transferred over to a movie. So that makes the solutions to the puzzles a bit lacking as you said. I don't know how to remedy that, other than making the movie like 10 hours long.

Yeah you certainly can't do the puzzles like the book, but I still think a really good writer/filmmaker could have come with some visual way to increase their footprint in the movie.

I'm still excited for a DC for a trip after reading the 3rd book. If you turned the three Langdon books into vacations you'd have some great sight seeing.

Heck yeah that would be awesome to go to those places after reading the books. Rome? Yes please!

You are going to DC soon? That's cool. I went a long time ago before reading the books (obviously), and really enjoyed it. I like history stuff.

I haven't read Angels & Demons or seen either movie. I need to get on that.

Yeah, the book is quite good. And the movie is better than DeVinci Code, so you can't go wrong there either.

No I don't have anything on the schedule but a good friend of mine got a job there so between that and the book I've been Jonesing to see the town.

The Mrs. and I watched Up In The Air recently. It was quite good, I'll admit it. I didn't really know what it was about before we watched it... other than it was nominated for the Best Picture oscar and had George Clooney. But that's ok, because it was only a dollar from Redbox so you can't go wrong with any movie.

Turns out it was pretty good and I enjoyed it. Clooney was awesome in it. Seems like his movies are hit or miss for me. I'll either love him in movies, or just think they suck. I think Up In The Air was worthy of its Best Picture nomination.

Iron Man 2 wasn't bad. I wouldn't say it was great by any means though either. If it's a movie you want to see, I'd recommend going in the theatre instead of waiting and renting it. Just because it's gonna be a heck of a lot better in the theatre with the sound and special effects and whatnot.

Did anybody see Robin Hood yet? Is it good?

I saw it. This movie is like a prequel to the whole Robin Hood story.

It's ok. Russel Crow is always good but I expected more intensity and drama because it was Russel Crow. It's not to the level of Braveheart or Gadiator. This movie was more straight forward. I guess what more could you do because it is Robin Hood after all.

3 out of 5 stars.

I heard it kinda sucked other than Russell Crowe. I heard it was not as exciting as the previews make it look, and the pacing was terrible.

I wanted to see it... not sure though if I'll go now. Maybe if I have a ton of free time some night, who knows.

Yea I read a few reviews and they pretty much said it's boring and just "meh".

Sounds like a renter.

We started Californication last week. It is excellent. Good characters. Good writing. Good amount of nudity.

Robin Hood is genre unto itself for me. I loved that story so much as a kid I feel I owe myself the theatrical experience. Not sure if it will happen though. Maybe if it rains in the next few weekends I'll go.

Yeah... that's kinda how I feel as well.

Plus I really like Russell Crowe, he's a stud. And I've heard he's definitely the best thing about the movie, so there's that to look forward to as well.

Just saw "Up in the Air" - have you guys heard of it? Stars this Clooney guy...

But seriously, thought it was very good, with a timely message about what people are going through in this economy. Clooney was great in it, thought his performance was actually underrated, because he made it look so effortless.

Was nice seeing a movie with adults talking to other adults in adult situations, as opposed to say, "Saw 19 - Die Harder"
