Udrih's salary this season was $1.7 million.
The Spurs traded him and $2.3 million to us for our "protected" second round pick, which they will never get because we won't finish top 4. So, we pay his salary with the money they gave us, and it costs the Spurs less than paying the luxury tax fines for his salary. We get $500,000 for our troubles.
A very convoluted deal, but it's completely legal under all the CBA and any regulations.
Thanks. Got it now.

No problem. Feel free to ask about anything else if something comes up.

I made a post earlier asking who is better, O.J. Mayo or Derrick Rose. What if we could get both? How many draft picks/players do we need to trade to get the #1 pick and #2 pick? (Assuming we come in last and already have the #1 pick).

That would be really freakin awesome. Rose would obviously be the PG and Mayo could play SG. Wow, I'm salivating.
I have no idea what it would take to trade for the #2 overall pick, but I'm guessing alot. Something like Foye, McCants, and someone else promising at least. We'd probably also have to take back a bad salary from whatever team had the #2 pick. I'd do that.

Yeah, it would be REALLY awesome, but I hope (if this were to happen) that we wouldn't have to trade too many young guys/draft picks and take too many horrible contracts. That would just be like the old Twolves all over again.
Still, if we can keep Jefferson, Foye, Brewer, and Gomes (and Telfair), adding the top two picks to our lineup would be really good, even if the rest of the players were pretty horrible.
It's kind of like what the Celtics did except instead of being mostly old, the team would be mostly young.
I guess our future is bright after all.

I'm excited for our team, despite the early losses. We've got a lot of good young guys. Our team is more exciting than the past two seasons.

If they throw in 387 nachos and a couple of Papa John's pizzas it might satisfy the traded salary requirements...

Just read the following on SI.com:
Marty Burns on Steve Francis' very small role with the Rockets so far:
"Francis' disappointing start so far has led to speculation the Rockets could seek to move him at some point after Dec. 15, the date when most of last summer's free agent signees become eligible to be traded. The Heat, Nuggets, Cavs, Pacers, Kings and T'wolves are among the clubs that could use some scoring help in the backcourt."
What?
....
No, seriously: WHAT?
Right, the management has done an very solid job for the first offseason since ages in shipping out both the veterans as well as the 123712479234 guards that have crowded the roster over the last seasons (OK, now it's crowded with SFs, but at least that's new), McCants seems to finally live up to at least something that was expected out of him, Randy Foye is still out with an injury but expected to be back at some point in the season and the team seems to have developed some sort of chemistry and obviously appears to generally like each other.
Next thing on the to-do-list:
Bring in some more or less washed-up, overweight, moody, declining, ball-hogging, veteran scoring PG that plays the exact same position our supposed franchise player Foye is supposed to take one day! And because Houston will surely be clinging on their homecome former franchise player and crowd favorite, we better offer them our next two first-rounders and Craig Smith along with McCants to lure them into that deal...because we clearly need SCORING HELP IN THE BACKCOURT!
*cough*
*cough*
sorry...but this is just dumb!

Anyone thinking we should have kept Beno Udrih at least until the first game against the Spurs ?

I know right? Would it have hurt to to have kept him around and seen what he could do for us? He played dam good last night... Oh well, not that it matters all that much in the grand scheme of things I guess.

Disagree. I've followed him pretty closely this season. How could both the Spurs and the Wolves not see he will be a decent PG? I really think he's not bad. He could have fit into our plans. Then Marko could be at the 2 guard, McCants could be on the bench. Perfect.

Yea, I don't know who we would have dumped. I can name about 5 players who have absolutely no value to any team.

Well yeah... but Udrih was definitely the cheapest guy to dump financially. In the end, does it really matter? Probably not. Maybe we win an extra 3 games or something with him this year. Not a huge deal. I'd rather have him than Doleac though. However, Doleac is an expiring contract so it probably wouldn't have been the best move to buy him out just to keep Udrih.
