Re:Timberwolves Trade Thread 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago Howls: 27
Points taken. I guess the only other thing I would say is that the Wolves will have to sign some $4-6 million contracts in the offseason to fill out the roster. Whether it's re-signing Smith or bringing on a free agent like Matt Barnes, I a) don't think anyone as good as Darko will be available and b) Darko and shitbag will come off the books before the bad deals the club will give to Rhino/anonymous big man.

As for Bassy, I think the club would be a bit undersized at the point, but I'd have no problem entering next year with Bassy, Lowry, Jaric, and Foye at the 1/2. However, you make a good point about him not wanting to be here. That would just save the club $3-4 million if they didn't resign him. As much as I like Bassy, I think Lowry gives you about the same thing. Hell, this trade would help them re-sign Gomes if they let Bassy go.

As long as they get a scoring 3 in the draft and make a trade like this to get a serviceable center and backup 4, I think they'll be fine. Plus, Darko and shitbag come off the books after 2 years.

Yea I guess I don't really care either way. Besides I have zero to none faith in the Twolves front office. They are completely inept. Any deal we do even if it looks good right away will end up screwing us over.

Has there been one moment in the history of this franchise besides drafting KG where you can say "those guys know what they're doing"

Why are we even debating this? We all know that our Front Office is nowhere near competent enough to ever pull something like this off. It's really quite a shame. As Bill Simmons would say, our Front Office could really, really use a "VP of Common Sense."

Re:Timberwolves Trade Thread 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago Howls: 51
Twolves get:

Andre Miller 9.6 mil 2yrs.
Thad Young 1.8 mil 2+1yrs.
Kevin Ollie 3.4 mil 1yr.

76ers get:

McCants
Foye
Ratliff
2nd Rd pick

I have no idea if the 76ers would do this deal, but I think it seems somewhat fair. I would even give up the celtics 1st rounder we have.

I like this trade because:

1. McCants and Foye should leave

2. I like Thad Young's game and I think he can be a really good scorer and player in a couple of years. He's only like 19 so he has plenty of time to develop. Besides he's shooting 52% from the field this year.

3. We get Andre Miller, which means him or Telfair would be at point at all times. That would be the end of the embarrassment that is Foye and Marko running the point.

4. I can't speak for the 76ers, but I think this would be adequate because they get cap relief this year from ratliff as opposed to next year when miller's contract expires. This might appeal to them because they have to resign Igoudala after this season, which will be spendy.

5. It is quite clear that the 76ers don't really want Andre Miller, because Louis Williams is looking good and is really young, and they'll probably give him the starting job next year whether Miller is there or not.

6. They get a draft pick also for their youth movement they have going on over there (much like us)

Re:Timberwolves Trade Thread 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago Howls: 51
Oh I forgot my point #7. As this trade leaves them a whole on their roster at SF.

My thinking on that is that Igoudala is pretty much a 6'6" SF as he has average shooting ability and loves to drive to the rim. He also can pass and has good rebounding ability for a SG. I'm not advocating an all out switch for him to SF, but I think he could play there part time, allowing them to play McCants at SG. I think that would be a nice scoring tandem for them.

Besides I read somewhere, I can't remember where, that they're going to make a strong run at Josh Smith this offseason when he's a free agent, theo's expiring contract would help them accomplish that.

Yeah, that would be an awesome trade. I did something pretty similar to that in my first mailbag.

I think the Sixers are probably getting the better end of the deal, but I'd still do either your offer or mine.

I would rather have Thad Young than either McCants or Foye.

Re:Timberwolves Trade Thread 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Howls: 11
It may seem like blasphemy, but I think the worst thing this team could do is make any large trades. The most likely result of us trading, is that we would get saddled with someone elses ugly contract, that they want to get out from under, (Mark Blount type of contract), a malcontent or head case, (Ricky Davis kind of player), or someone who will leave as soon as he becomes a free agent. (Any player who wants to be on a winning team before 2010).
The only real hope for this team is to build with young guys from the draft. It's more cost-effective, and overall young players can grow together as a group, over time. Older players often have trouble adapting to a new style, or group of teammates. (Great players exceptd, but we couldn't get any of those anyway.)

A. The head hauncho cant draft
B. Ebi, McCants, Avry ect all drafts, all players we cant build a team upon

kinda a catch 22 isnt it....

n with FA , what decent free agent would want to play here, when the west has such great teams in it??

we mite just have to get all euro leaugep layers,, anyone speak german or slavic?

Re:Timberwolves Trade Thread 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Howls: 22
I think that Foye, McCants, and Brewer were great picks even in hindsight. McCants is an awesome 6th man, kind of like Gordon or Ginoboli. Foye will be the center of this team for a long time along with Jefferson. Kind of like the Duncan/Parker duo (Not really comparing skills or playing style so don't argue). Brewer took the place of a less effective Hassell. Kind of like Bruce Bowen. Oh god, I'm comparing us to the Spurs. Sorry everyone.

Re:Timberwolves Trade Thread 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Howls: 51
Let me get this straight. Now that we are a solid 12-43 on the season McCants is a Ginobli/Gordon(who are in no way similar and shouldn't even be compared besides the fact that they both come off the bench) 6th man, Foye & Jefferson are the next Duncan/Parker combo, and brewer is bowen.

I hope you're right and we win 4 of the next 9 championships.

Re:Timberwolves Trade Thread 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Howls: 124
I probably wouldn't allude to that comparison either.

Still, I'll give you the point that McCants is much better as the 6th man than he was starting. I can live with him if he just stops the stupid fouls and plays better overall defense.
