First summer league game is tonight at 9PM. I dunno if I'll be able to watch it... most likely NOT since my internet is down at home. That really eats.

Anyways, here is the Summer League schedule:

What, no Starbucks nearby? No neighbor with an open wireless modem? I was hoping to read your posts... Sometimes I think I need an ether net cord as long as the one that went out my 2nd story window to the tree over my car to plug in the oil sump heater that kept my car warm. Back when I lived in Mpls.

Wolves down by 20 early on, keep repeating as my mantra that New Orleans was 0-6 in summer league last year

At first I thought my stream was delayed, but then i realized that Steve (Snapper) Jones is always about 3 plays behind in his analysis, everything seems to be working fine

Love living at the free throw line in the 2nd quarter and looks comfortable ( 7 & 5 so far, 4 early fouls but he's calmed down), Brewer doing his best George Gervin impression, except for the part of the ball going through the hoop

Disappointing show overall. I started watching the game with about 5 min left in the 1st, and as soon as I really sat down to focus, I see Love throw a simple outlet pass out of bounds. He threw it like 4 feet in front of Drew Neitzel out of bounds, with no Maverick in sight. This happened exactly with 3:29 left in the 1st I like Love's presence down low though, despite the foul trouble early. I saw glimpses of Al Jefferson in the paint when he grabbed like 2 offensive boards in a row. He also doesn't give up easy points down low, I honestly thought Reyshawn Terry was going to poster him. Lucky Love got a little wrist on him.

I like Brewer's aggressiveness, but for some reason, he thinks he's Kobe Bryant out there and taking crazy fadeaways with a hand in his grill. I think he needs to calm down a little bit and try to go to the hole and draw some fouls. He gets in there with ease, but when he tries to run on the break, he goes out of control and dribbles out of bounds (Like he did like 3 times). His defense doesn't cease to impress me though, great job.

Pooh Jeter's game is impressive too, quick quick guy.

Brewer's really forcing his shot but is rebounding well and playing good D. They need some more athletes; Dallas has a huge advantage there. The Mavs are shooting out of their mind right now. Love needs more touches.

Another simple outlet pass thrown out of bounds, adfaoiuewr

Even though I was praising Brewer's defense in my last post, he's been letting Shan Foster run wild out there. There's been quite a few good looks from him because Brewer takes some gambles on the defensive end. Bleh.

I need to give some credit to Love though, I haven't looked at the numbers enough to see that he's got 16/11 with 3 min left in the 3rd. 5 offensive boards, great job.

Brewer looks more like an undrafted rookie and less like an NBA player..

Neitzel is money, too bad they took him out even though he's the only guy who can score on our team right now.

Brewer seems hell bent on taking the path of most resistance to the cup every time he has the ball.

Love and Richard worked together fairly well when they were in as a tandem. I don't know why they're not working out more athletes. They have Carney when he's healthy, but Dallas' guards were quicker and their inside players were quicker and jumped higher.

Here's the boxscore:

Wolves 74, Mavs 90

I only saw most of the 2nd half, but from what I saw it was pretty disappointing.

Players I liked

Pooh Jeter 9 pts, 4-6 FG, 5 assists
Drew Neitzel 10 pts, 4-5 FG, 2-2 3PT
Blake Ahearn 17 pts, 4-8 FG, 8-8 FT

Players I didn't like

Corey Brewer 11 pts, 5-18 FG, 7 boards
Bryce Taylor 5 pts, 2-5 FG, 0 assists in 26 minutes

I was either really impressed or really disappointed when Love outletted. I mean, that was essentially his selling point, and it's hard to like it when he had a few hiccups. And when I say hiccups, it was like throwing the ball out of bounds when his teammate is only like 15 feet away with no players on the other team nearby. I saw him do it twice, which isn't a horrible number, but it's still alarming to me if that's what his specialty is.

I still give him props though, he was a man down there in the paint and he did show some impressive outlets that were spot on. Aside from the 2 obvious outlet turnovers, he only had 3 "real" turnovers. He was getting horrible calls called against him. At least 2 or 3 illegal screen offensive fouls, which accounts for the rest of his TO's. Though I hated the calls, he does have to be quicker on his feet though.

I though Neitzel was impressive after his lucky/accidental bank shot. Unfortunately, he did squat the first half, so you gotta take all that into account. Ahearn was the only consistent guy and I really liked him too. He was attacking the rim just as much as he was nailing the long-ball. I really like him as well, really smart player in my opinion.

As for my thoughts on Brewer, I think he was just a little out of control at times. I really believe he was just trying to do too much and took too many unnecessarily and very difficult shots. He settled down in the second half though, only taking like 5 shots when he had 13 attempts at the end of the first half. I think he'll improve in the next few games hopefully too.

I also see a lot of potential in Pooh Jeter. He's a pure point in my opinion and fast as hell.

Minnesota lost because they were outcoached by the spurned Dwane Casey.

(This is from my astute observation 5 minutes into the delayed game, knowing that MN lost.)
