As a former handler myself, sports radio is always one of the trickier places to put your candidate. It's one of those places where the people who are listening can spot a phony a mile away. You will likely get some softball questions from hosts that follow politics like the candidate follows sports, but you will also be asked to give your opinion on this, that, or the other sports team and then look like a boob when you give a silly answer about liking all the teams in the local market. With Hartman and Ballermo it's a bit different equation as they like to talk politics, but at least Franken was honest in his answer about the Wolves.

That being said, it's a pretty key demographic as the audience is filled with late-breaking male independents.

He wasn't talking specifics, just that he loved the Vikings and that the Twins are doing well. He said that they follow all local sports except for the Wolves.

Al Franken is on KFAN with Chad Hartman right now. They touched upon MN sports briefly and Franken said he's just never been into the Timberwolves. That kind of bummed me out for some reason but I suppose it's not that surprising.

Did his handlers give him some talking points on T-Jack right before he went on?

I'd laugh if he said he was a huge Wild fan since Coleman brought hockey back into the state of 'sota as St. Paul's mayor.
