Randy has rubbed me the wrong way in a lot of the interviews I've seen him do. He seems to have bought into his rookie and pre-season hype. He didn't do anything to impress me during the 2nd half of last season. Though when I look at his stats now I can see why people who weren't watching think he must have been good.
My favorite misleading stat of the off-season is the Mike Miller, Rashad McCants and Randy Foye are all 40% 3pt shooters. There are 40% 3 point shooters who change games with their skills... Dan Majerle, Reggie Miller, Bruce Bowen [at times] and hopefully Mike Miller. McCants and Foye padded their stats when games/seasons were out of reach.
I'd guess Foye put NO thought at all into the All-Star remark. If you made a high light of the 100th to 120th best plays Deron Willimans made on the year and compared with the 1st-10th best plays Foye made Deron would smash.
I hope my eyes dost deceived me in what I saw as less than spectacular play from Foye last year, but I doubt it.

I couldn't agree more with all of this. Especially the part about him and McCants padding their stats in blowouts and whatnot.

I can't say that I know for sure, but I really feel that the quote he made was really taken out of context. I highly doubt that he was trying to get others to think that he would be in the All-star game. It was probably made in reference to Roy making the All-star game and how Foye felt about it.
I guess I'm going against the grain on this one, but I still really like Foye (Note the avatar). I really think he can be a leader out there on the floor from what I've seen. I'm sure you guys see a lot more of him over there in Sota since I rarely see his games here in Sac, but I really like his game. He takes it both inside (Um... extremely underrated floater. Like... Tony Parker status.) and outside, and I don't think people give him his credit for his quickness and explosiveness off the dribble. I've watched nearly every single Timberwolves highlight/recap on NBA.com or ESPN.com or on ESPN News ever since Foye was brought to the team. He's a crunch time player who doesn't breakdown under the pressure. Just right off the top of my head, his rookie season, I remember he hit that game winning floater after blowing by Kirk Hinrich (Who's has a reputation of being a very savvy defender) against Chicago, and also his game winning assist against Boston when he found a wide-open Ricky Davis after a great cut to the lane.
I really wish people will give him more of a chance to see him at 100% before saying they don't like him. As far as his stat-padding goes, over 70% of a typical Wolves game ends up being "garbage time" for everyone anyway.

Maybe I am. However, it's not like this is one standalone example. On the whole, Foye seems rather cocky/smug/egotistical/whatever you want to call it. What has he accomplished so far? If he was joking, I obviously would never have even commented on this. The thing as, as far as I can tell he was completely serious.

I agree 100 %.
The quote is kind of referring to if he had played, the team may have been better, and thus gotten him some possible recognition for the all-star game if he played well. Note all of these are possibilities, like how he said "might."

Like I said, if he was joking it's not big deal. As far as I can tell, he wasn't. Therefore, it doesn't matter if he said "might" or not. The West is loaded and he currently had/has less than a 1% chance of making the all-star then or now. Don't take it the wrong way, but look how everyone on this blog is defending him except Pants and I. It's the same thing with the Front Office making excuses for his deficiencies because we traded Roy for him.
If he doesn't "have it" this season, maybe then people will finally start realizing what we have with him. Keep in mind, he's not a young stud with potential. He played four years in college and is already 25 years old. Pretty much what you see is what you get.

Bottom line for me is, I have never seen or read a remark about the T-Wolves that anything about Foye's attitude was bad for team chemistry. Maybe that injury humbled him, maybe it put a "what great would happen if I was there" image in his head seeing the atrrocious season...
But for the time being, we've read enough about McCants and his ego. We've read enough about the likes of Blount, Ricky Davis, Mike James constantly getting into wordfights in the locker room. And we didn;t ehar anything about Foye, so either his ego is there just not as visible to the team or we're all reading too much into it.
If he becomes a 17/6 guy (as his per48 stats claim) and Wolves will be able to win more than 30 games - I'm all for him bragging.

Coming from someone who's actually watched the past two seasons, not just highlights on ESPN, your analysis of Foye is laughably predictable. It's simply what they've told you on ESPN and through Wolves' media.
1) Foye's floater is to TP's floater as Brewer is to Lebron. Nothing else to say.
2) As far as Foye's "Clutch" play, CW would you please dig up our old posts regarding this fallacy? He's not exactly quick to wilt under pressure, but he's hardly Reggie Miller. This is more overblown than anything about the man.
You have to have watched the games, not just read about them or watched highlights.

The biggest beef you guys seem to have with Randy Foye is that he is over hyped and over confident in his abilities. People think he is good and he doesn't deserve it.
The Timberwolves don't seem to be overhyping him this year. Most of the photo opps seem to be of the new "big three." If anyone is being overhyped it's Kevin Love. But that's normal. He was a very talanted college player and a high draft pick. He is on his honeymoon. Foye is still on his honeymoon as well. Being injured last year prolonged the party.
It will quickly end for Randy this year as the season gets under way and the rubber meets the road. He will succeed or he will fail or he will fall somewhere in between.
In the mean time, his overconfidence or his unfounded adoration by the public as a game changer is not hurting anyone. It's just the hype that accompanies every player.

if you think the guy is smug, fine.
if the stuff you read between the lines doesn't make you want to grab a beer with the guy, fine.
but you don't you want someone with confidence in foye's position?
when i was talking about villanova's run, i wasn't referring to stats or gimmicky offenses, it was foye's decision making and desire to be the man. if you've got issues with pecking order, so does everybody -- it's a young team finding their way. besides...
point guard play is the most overrated part of an offense with a low post presence like big al (and as unimaginative as wittman's). foye doesn't have to average any more assists than he'll coincidentally get swinging the ball around the horn off al's double-teams.
be an aggressive perimeter threat -- that's all everyone who is not al has to be for their offense to be successful. a threat to shoot it, drive and break the defense down, or swing it to another shooter. (the only doubt i have about foye is his playmaking, so it's good that al and, to a lesser extent love, will eventually be helping share the load.)
as far as the chauncey comparisons go, billups was a spot-up shooter (like brandon) who thrived with flip and was willing (old) enough to listen to a hall of fame coach bust his ass about playing defense. the differences between a young guy being told he's the future and a guy who's been passed on by four or five teams or whatever does a lot for your ego, i'd imagine, as well. i'm saying: the humbling of chauncey made him who he is just like foye's anointing as the #1 franchise point guard.
putting foye in his place is wittman's job, and could determine whether he keeps it. the roy comparisons have helped or will help humble foye and make him more receptive to coaching, but enough about "playing the right way." it's called maturity, and foye (as well as the whole team) is in the midst of it. it's going to be a helluva year.
totally hungover from saint paul.

You have to have watched the games, not just read about them or watched highlights.
That's exactly right. It seems that a lot of fairweather people around here (or people that follow Wolves from long distances away, but can't watch every game) simply think what the Wolves propoganda machine tells them. And of course the Wolves are going to market Foye positively, they HAVE to because they traded away a future star (Roy) for him.
1) I have to agree. His floater? There are things I can praise about Foye, but his floater is not one.
2) He won what, 2 games his rookie year because of some timely shots? He's not a slouch by any means, but he's not exactly "clutch" yet.
His awful defense doesn't get enough attention in my mind. Being that I watch almost every single Wolves game, I would rate him as one of the worst defenders on our team. A lot of people that don't see every game or really know what to analyze about basketball seem to think he's a decent, or even sometimes, pretty good defender. He gives up more points on defense than anyone on our team except maybe McCants.

You have good points in your post, but I'm not sure about this ending part. It seems there are some players negatively hyped as much as Foye is positively hyped. Some deserve the negative hype, while others don't.
Some players aren't even hyped at all. I wouldn't say that every player in the NBA is over hyped positively like Foye. Not by a long shot.
