Game Thread: OK City Thunder at Wolves (10/8/08) 1 Month, 1 Week ago Howls: 14
After 1 quarter, the Wolves are up 24-11. I really liked what I've seen from Love so far, hitting a 3 as well as an and-1 and some free throws to 8 early points. Foye looks a bit messy right now, on 0-3 shooting, but 2 assists and a steal. Brewer has 2 field goals, one of then an and-1. Miller has hit a 3 as well as some loose boards/assists to go along with a block. Al has continued to dominate the paint with 3/4 shooting in 9 minutes.

It's a massive brick-fest right now, but Love's ex-Bruin teammate Russell Westbrook has scored 5 straight points to pull the Thunder to 18-26. Carney just had a steal leading to a fast-break dunk that makes me wish I could have seen it.

The game can be caught live on online-streaming right now by going here, then scrolling down to the Wolves-Thunder game and then clicking "Listen".

McCants is killing us, going 0/4 and committing 3 fouls alone in the 2nd quarter, and is immediately pulled out. The Wolves are absolutely cold right now and turning it over like no other, as the Thunder now take a 30-28 lead, lead by Westbrook's 8 points in the 2nd quarter with 6:35 remaining.

The game has really slowed down now, with the game tied at 38 with 1:43, but has pretty much just been a giant brick-fest. The Wolves continue to keep fouling and are now at 14 fouls and 13 TO's to the Thunder's 8 fouls/10 TO's. *yawn*

Going into half time now with a 41-40 result, Thunder up 1. Al hit a buzzer beating hook shot, but that's all we have to buzz about. Like I said earlier, an extremely boring game, Thunder shooting 36% and the Wolves shooting 37% overall, but I have to imagine the Wolves shot 30% or worse in that quarter. Bleh.

Thanks YoLeo for the running commentary, as well as posting tonight's game thread. Another Howl for you. I promise I will be more on top of things in the future. The forum updates messed me up today... at least that's my excuse!

Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

Antoine Walker: "Because there are no Fours."

I missed almost all of the 2nd half, just to come back to hear the waning minutes of a 88-82 victory. Was a pretty ugly from what I hear from the announcers. Both teams combined for 48 turnovers, Thunder shooting 40%, while the Wolves shot 37%.

According to the announcers, McCants, Gomes, and Bassy came through in the 4th and made their last few shots (Gomes/McCants with back-to-back 3-pointers in the final 2:40). I heard them call one of the final big plays of the game, which was a Bassy stop and pop to pretty much seal it 86-80.

Foye made all 8 of his points in the 3rd quarter, but shot 3/12. Love went 3/8, 10 points, 5 boards, and one dime and steal. Brewer looked decent in this one, going 4/9 for 11 points and 6 boards. Miller went 1/7, but rounded out his game with 7 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals, and a block. In the end, Al Jeff was the only good player out there with 13 pts, 9 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 blocks.

Box score (Takes a while to update to final stats)

Carney made a big 3 pointer with 2 minutes to play that got them back in the game -- Bassy assisted.

Carney's stat line looks ok too, don't remember specifics.

OK City Thunder needs to know that this isn't the NBLD anymore cause that Logo and Jersey is ugly and very NBLD.

Thanks for posting another recap. It's hard to get a feel for the games when there's so little coverage in the mainstream media.

I turned on the feed at the end when we were 7 points down with 3 minutes left. Bassy, Gomes and McCants then took over the game. That was extrreemly interesting and very encouraging! Maybe our bench will be our strength this year?

Yah..I mean NBDL. If we could score like this in the regular season, we'll be alright.

A couple of observations:

1. Where has Randy Foye been these first 2 pre season games?

2. I think we are going to have a really good bench this year.

Foye has been pretty quiet. We're going to need him to step up big time if this season is going to be exciting - a.k.a. any shot at a playoff chase.

Our bench is pretty decent. You figure that our top seven or so are (in no particular order). That means you have two pretty good guys coming off for you, plus Brewer. I don't know off the top of my head where Jeff and Miller were drafted, but they're the two biggest names on the board and the other guys were top draft prospects.

Jefferson
Miller
Foye
Love
McCants
Telfair
Gomes

Whoops - I guess Gomes wasn't a top draft prospect, but he's undoubtedly solid.

Big Al was a late teen in the draft while Miller was selected 5th.
