Winning In 2009 1 Year, 1 Month ago Howls: 106
Chad Ford mentioned Miller for Wally in his chat today which would put the Wolves $21 million under the cap. It put a thought in my head.

Moves...
Sign Ron Artest
Trade For Marcus Camby (7.6 million) (picturing a Clippers giving him away or for a pick where we can absorb the cap space)... Rasheed might be a backup plan here.

Core Rotation:
Foye
Brewer
Artest - keep the elite players from running wild
Jefferson
Love
Camby/Rasheed - not enough in the tank to start but they would be very useful for certain match ups
Gomes
Top 10 pick (PG seems like the best fit with the above rotation)

This doesn't seem unthinkably unrealistic. The second question is... would this be a playoff team?

Ron Artest would not sign with this team, neither would Sheed but I would love to have that lineup. Hopefully add a Harden or somebody with some upside in the draft and that lineup would be really competitive.

Never underestimate the power of the biggest check. I will say this... that would be a VERY combustible lineup.

This team kinda reminds me of the Nuggets of the past couple of years. Very combustible and will get you to the playoffs on talent alone, but you're probably not getting past the 1st round and certainly not past the 2nd.

It would be a fun team to watch though especially if we picked up Brandon Jennings with our pick

I'd still trade Love though. Even in this team he doesn't fit at all. He won't fit as long as AL is on the team, and AL is a far superior player.

I think that team could possibly make the playoffs as a 5-6-7-8 seed, depending on how a few games shake out over the course of the season. Especially if we added someone like Jennings or Harden.

With that said, I highly doubt any of Rasheed, Camby, and/or Artest would actually CHOOSE to come here. Money be damned.

If you can make the Artest signing happen in concert with the other move I think he could be convinced. The number one thing with him will be convincing him how much he'll be loved here and we won't be a basement dweller. He needs to feel appreciated or he doesn't want to play for a team.

That team will never compete for a championship. I'd rather be a cellar dweller and let lady luck net us a young star.

McHale isn't the GM of the team anymore.

Do you see Artest signing here? I dont buy it. Plus hes peaking in the career. I think our best shot at forming a perrenial contender would be to do our best in getting Marvin Williams and making further moves from there.

On a good Twolves team would Marvin Williams be the 3rd best player? He'd likely need to be if you paid him over 8 million a year.

In december he played 15 games. He scored under 10 in 5 of those and under 15 in 8 of them. Those look more like 4th option numbers to me and I'd rather sit on the money and bid my time than lock in on a player that inconsistent.

I don't think you are wrong about Artest peaking or having peaked and I'm not advocating the Wolves trying to go balls out to win in 09 because I don't think it would be best for long term success. It is intreguing that they might have the cap space to shake things up. It'd be the first time ever.

I think Artest is a solid option. Hard to see him leaving a great situation in the contending Rockets. I do hear you that Williams isnt exactly "proven" just yet, but lets not forget the Wolves of this decade. Too many silly short term fixes. Williams has a ton of talent and may help more long term than Ron Ron.

The issue with a lot of the 09 and 10 FAs is that many are on the lower half of their prime. The plus side to this is players such as Artest and Bibby may not command as much money as someone like Marvin Williams.

Either way, I think we can all agree that our best chances of making noise is this summer, given our assets and the contract situations around the league.

I agree that Artest likely won't leave Houston if things end nicely this season. Artest runs so hot and cold I can very easily see him having a little spat with someone in the front office or being mortally insulted that he isn't made a max offer.

Ofcourse all this is Mute... after tonights win it is TWW in Minnesota. Team Without a Weakness. Any free agent we ad is GRAAAVVYYY.
