Game Thread: Wolves vs NO Hornets (1/23/09) 3 years ago #27843

Season Record: 13-27

The Wolves are playing well, but the Hornets are still better. And they've got that Chris Paul fella. It will be close though, especially with Chandler out.

PREDICTION:

Wolves 99 - Hornets 103
Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

Antoine Walker: "Because there are no Fours."

Wolves - 98
NO - 94

If the Hornets losse to New Jersey tonight I'll change my pick but...
with NO playing it's third game of the week on the road after 3 wins I think they might lose a little focus in the cold. Wolves are due for a hot night from behind the arch. Time for Carney to prove he is for real.
Thank you for the baton Mr. Kidd - Pretty Ricky

I'm having nightmares thinking about what CP3 is going to do to our [non-existing] D. You all know I'm a big Foye guy, but he surely can't keep up with him, neither can Bassy. He's going to terrorize guys like Al, Rhino, or Love down in the post.

I'm trying to picture Brian Cardinal switching off a pick and trying to stay in front of CP3 near the top of the arc....

I have absolutely NO ties to Minnesota. No family/friends there, no one I know that's a fan of anything Minnesota, and never set foot anywhere close to there.

I'm just a normal guy who randomly picked the wrong team to cheer for as a kid.

Vegas only has the Hornets winning by 2, which surprised me, until I realized both D. West & T. Chandler are out. 2 of their best 3 players missing? I'm gonna roll with the Wolves.

SOTA - 103
NOLA - 98

Holy f***ing s**t, what a 4th quarter!!!

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this game, even if there is any issues. As I'm writing this, Love just grabbed an offensive board off a missed Miller FT and puts it back to ensure the win.

First off, to any doubters... OUR TEAM IS NO FLUKE! Al played like the monster he is. Miller may still be on his shooting slump, but he's being a great distributer and slasher. Love did his thing and was a great big body. Carney was an absolute BEAST off the bench.

But Foye?? I wouldn't be surprised if I'm just on a high from the game, but he was the defensive player of the night! Bassy and Carney couldn't handle CP3, but look at the job that Foye did. Nearly blocked him and stopped him from getting easy penetrations. After that, they got him on Peja off a switch. The first time, Peja nailed a turn around fadeaway, nothing he can do about that. Try #2? They tried the same play, but Foye blocked it but jumping out the gym. His athleticism really showed in both that block and the near-block on CP3 (Which resulted in a Carney fastbreak dunk, signifying the beginning of the end). He was also nailing the daggers down on the Hornets tonight... it's not unbelievable anymore.

He's come to stay.

And yeah, no Chandler or West tonight, but look at the Hornets' shooting! Oh my goodness I wanted somebody to slap me as I watched Posey drain 7/11 3-pointers. Yeah, we shot 47% from beyond the arc (10/21), but they were not to be outdone, going off for 59% (13/22). They even outshot us overall 53%-51%. But the biggest difference of the game was our rebounding advantage and their foul trouble.

Wolves: 42 rebounds, 11 PFs
Hornets: 26 rebounds, 27 PFs.

That can be attributed to the missing big men. But like I said, they shot the freaking lights out.

Man! What a win!

Jefferson, Foye, Jefferson, Foye. Someone told Al to pass out of double teams. Finally. He still got his points. It was great.

Mike Miller found a new way to score. Slash. Great points rebounds and assists.

Who says Love and Al can't play together at the same time. I don't see it.

Love made baskets tonight. No plays are run through him so he gets what falls to him. He made them tonignt.

Carney. Is there anyone faster to the basket?

Rhino was great the first half.

Telfair makes things move fast and had some spectacular assists and a dagger 3 when it counted.

I was a great game to watch tonight!

McCants had 7 strikes and 3 spares. Wait, that was last night.

Mayo went 4-14 in a 20 pt loss to the Knicks in a very "McCants-ian" performance. Perhaps we can slow down regarding deeming him the automatic ROY.

Just wait till Kevin Love gets 30 minutes a game and a few plays run for him.

GO WOLVES

Man, I will admit that was a great game to be at. Very fun. I don't have a whole lot of analysis or any of that jibber jabber. We sat in the third row behind the Hornets bench, and whew, that was fun. Let me say, Hilton Armstrong is now one of my new favorite players to observe while on the bench (he was not playing and dressed in street clothes.) He was clowning and messing around, and generally looked like he had no idea what was happening in the game at any point. He either has ADHD or FAS... I'm not entirely sure.

Good times, great game, and the crowd was very solid. The attendance was listed at 18,000. Granted, it was probably more like 15 or 16 thousand, but it was still one of the bigger crowds I've seen this year. Here's the boxscore:

http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=290123016

I'm fully prepared to eat crow when that time comes, but it is not now. I do not think we win this game if David West and Tyson Chandler are playing. It's one thing to have backups like Kevin Love and Craig Smith (or similar such players), but to play guys like Sean Marks and Ryan Bowen is a travesty to fans of the New Orleans team. Those players are an absolute joke and they have no place in the NBA whatsoever. I won't use this as an excuse to take away from the win, but all I'm saying is I just don't think we win if the Hornets had 2 of their 3 best players playing. I think you should all be able to agree that's a fair assessment.

With that said, almost everyone on our team played great. Well... except Gomes the Great. Gomes the Great did not play great tonight. His defense was not his usual steady self either. I won't make excuses for him.

I am really liking Carney out there. He's now my third favorite TWolf. I just don't know what to think when it comes to re-signing him. If you are a person that doesn't want us to get Sean Williams or Noah, then I don't see how you can advocate Carney... because its the same situation. Also, with a healthy Brewer and Gomes next year, does Carney even get minutes? I'm not so sure.

Anyways, WE CAN BUILD ON THIS! Playoffs baby! Good win.

That was one of the funnest Wolves games in a long time. Basically everyone played great.

I particularly enjoyed the Carney lose ball pickup and jam and the series at the end were Love got help defense block followed up by him getting an offensive rebound on a free throw which he made a very nifty move to score.
