I believe the credit for this goes to the guys at CanisHoopus? If not, props to whomever made this:

Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

I know it's for the sake of being extremely up-to-date with everything hut I have a few issues:

1) why the info on Sam Mitchell, Oliver Miller and Latrell Sprewell? None of them will even return to the league anyway. Ok, there's a 2% chance Spree may want to return for one last run at a ring with Boston/Cleveland/San Antonio next season when he's 40... NOOOT. Yes, we do hold their free agent rights but they mean close to nothing and clog up the main picture. I have nothing against the info on Snyder and Doleac... I think they WILL eventually return to the NBA, probably Snyder.

Or maybe all of those guys are there because we never waived their cap holds? I somehow have a hard time believeing it... especially in regards to Sam Mitchell, Oliver MIller and Spree.

2) Shelden Williams and Rodney Carney STILL HAVE their rookie contracts on. That means:

Rodney Carney next season: $2,539,935 (team option), 2010/11 $3,568,608 (qualifying offer)

Shelden Williams next season: $4,302,427 (team option), 2010/11 $5,705,019 (qualifying offer)

Yes, I am fully aware that Wolves picking up those option is a 10% chance AT BEST, but for the time being they didn;t say anything in that regard. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if the Wolves actually picked up Carney for that 2.5mill if he continues strong as a rotation guy. Obviously they'd do the same with him as they did with Telfair the next season (waive his qualifying offer, resign for less) but the option is still there.

3) Isn't Troy Hudson already off the books? I mean, the last year of his contract was guaranteed on performance. In other words: his lack of playing time and injury problems would cause him to be unable to fulfill the rules required for that salary. When he was waived he was fully aware of that, and the 10million buyout was for only the last 2 years of his deal, not 3. That means: he got off the books thanks to the buyout last season.

Unless of course the figures on the cap stay there for as long as he was signed for, regardless whether if he already got paid everything, or not.

1. Carney's team option was declined at the deadline to do so.

2. Yes, we are still paying Troy Hudson this season. It's sad, I know.
Chuck Norris once challenged Lance Armstrong in a \"Who has more testicles?\" contest.

Chuck Norris won by 5.

Nope. Their options have not been picked up. They are unrestricted free agents at the end of the season. This is the tactic used with Telfair (who signed on for less than his QO) and Shaddy (who was going to get canned regardless).

I'd love to see Carney stay, but that purple patch seems to be over and he is going to have to offer more than 15 games of sunshine to earn a new deal.

We have $23 million coming off the books at the end of next season. $23 million.

But we'll be only 6+ million under the Salary Cap...if we add at least 2 first rounders, 1 2nd rounder... Hm, we will again be tusck with the exceptions, because we'll have close to no room to maneuver under the cap.

There is a week in early fall/ late summer where everyone has to decide on if the rookie contract options are being picked up. Teams can't wait until the end of the last garanteed year.

I don't think the Wolves are Paying T-Hud and Juwan Howard in that they were bought out. But when buy-outs happen the existing contracts stay on the salary cap as if they guy was still on the team. The plus of a buy out (from a fan perspective) is that it frees up a roster spot.

Exactly right.

Also, it saves the owner money that he (hopefully) uses to improve the team in other ways.

That's the theory at least.

I love seeing that preposterous list of Free Agent holds.

How does a team get rid of those cap holds? I assume they don't affect the luxury tax but might affect cap space. Can a team get rid of them? If so, why wouldn't they? I mean, I know the Wolves want to keep the inside track on signing Sam Jacobson or Andrae Patterson when they make their triumphant returns to the league, but...

I'm pretty sure Cap Holds have no negative impact on our team or salary situation whatsoever. With that said, it's preposterous that they still exist for old players like that. I have no idea why.
