Game Thread: Wolves vs LA Lakers (2/22/09) 2 years, 11 months ago #29516

Season Record: 18-36

We. Have. No. Chance. I'll be surprised if this isn't a monster rout. We don't match up with the Lakers at a single position. They might get bored at the end and allow us to make the score a bit more respectable. Maybe.

PREDICTION:

Wolves 97 - Lakers 118
Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

Antoine Walker: "Because there are no Fours."

122 - Lakers
107 - Wolves

Wolves are down so much early they'll atleast be playing most of the game against lax defense.

Kobe and Gasol sit the 4th out and Odom shows how the Wolves can't even think of matching up against him.
Thank you for the baton Mr. Kidd - Pretty Ricky

Wow, the Lakers have some bad luck... they'll be the first to receive a pounding courtesy of the 'Shelden Love' company, which is taking off for the stars just now!!!!

Anybody wants to add anything besides "we're doomed...again" ?

The Lakers are incredibly good. My bad, they lost Bynum and suddenly Odom gets like 15 rpg? This is plain ridiculous.

Errr, what the hell is wrong with Sacramento? McCant and Bootie had not been examined yet so we can't dress Shelden and Brown in game uniforms. ;/

Err, this season please? Just make it done.

Odom got a key tip in to win the game for the Lakers, Would have been nice to have a young outstanding rebounder from the Wolves to get that board

Oh wait we do. His name is Kevin Love. But he was benched for the 4th quarter after getting 10 boards and a +7.

Still Can't Stand McHale. This has to be his last year the team.

It was a match up thing. Gasol was having his way with Love. Collins actually had a good defensive game.

I don't understand our team at all. How do we lose to the Pacers without their two best players, and then play the best team in the league very close? It makes no sense and its unnerving.

On the flip side, it was the classic "low effort, let down game" for the Lakers. They knew that they could just wait until crunch time to turn it on and really try, and that's what they did... and they won. Go figure. That's basically the script for most good teams against the Wolves.

Sweet games by Gomes and Telfair. Foye and Love played alright too, although Foye's FG% has been off lately. Big three he made at the end.

Our bench blows, but the Rhino was on fire. 9 for 10 from the field, can't ask for anything more than that. 18 minutes in certain situations off the bench is definitely his ideal role. I am not sure I'd say 3 rebounds, 4 fouls, and a -12 in 26 minutes by Collins was a "good" defensive game. I'd rather see Sheldon Williams get the minutes... at least for a while to see what we've got with him.

I'm not even going to comment or analyze Miller. It's pointless. He'll take shots one game and they put up 4 shots in 40 minutes the next game. It makes no sense.

KLove really struggled against the size and length of the Lakers. And that's what is going to happen throughout his career against like half of the teams in the league, unless we get a legit true center to play alongside him. In his defense, he was getting absolutely brutalized by the refs tonight. Those non-calls in the third quarter were atrocious. Seriously, wtf? I mean, NBA refs are usually bad, but at least they are consistently bad. Tonight was a complete joke. The Wolves got hosed.

Odom was studly. He's been on a TEAR lately. We had no answer for him. He should definitely be starting for the Lakers. I think relegating him to the bench at the beginning of the year messed with his mind.

Pau Gasol is clearly one of the best big men at running the court in the entire NBA. He was underrated on Memphis and probably still is. I would have loved to pair him with KG back in the day. Sigh, oh well.

Kobe was Kobe. He did have 6 turnovers though. And god he bitches a lot.

If nothing else, at least the barrage of three points by both teams was pretty exciting at the end.

Well, at least our guys play hard for McHale. I guess that's all we can ask for at this point, unfortunately.

Oh yeah, where was KLove in the 4th quarter???

Also, why didn't a certain white American that has been getting minutes lately not play?

Too bad we couldn't have had an A-Mo sighting. I would have enjoyed the laughs.

Who knows? That is really interesting though that the guy didn't even see the floor.

Also, did you notice that Bobby Brown was activated today? Shelden Williams was behind the bench. Supposedly McHale had them both there to start learning terminology and to be with the team. I think Brown is going to end up getting quite a few minutes before the end of the season. One can only hope.

Whatdoya know, The Daddy actually went to a game. That means I watched the whole thing.

It wasn't that close, the Lakers weren't trying. They waited a bit long to try at the end though. Had they put forth the effort early in the fourth we could have stamped Reynolds on this game cuz it was wrapped up.

BTW, nice job McHale having Telfair shoot a jumper with under a minute to go and Foye sitting in the corner doing nothing. Great call.

I'd rather have Carney play than Miller. With each passing day I enjoy him less, which hasn't been possible since Brewer's injury.

Love can't even get a shot up against Odom or Gasol. I've never seen a big man in the NBA throw up 43 pump fakes in one game. He'll be a fine player but it's too bad we didn't get Lopez, he'd fit perfectly next to Al (FYI, I thought he'd be garbage).

Gomes played well. He's that consummate "winner" swingman. Much like Posey did with the C's, Gomes will do with some team in the near future. Sorry CW, but you know he won't be here long. He'll bolt. Good thing we've got Miller here to take his minutes....

I know. And... I'm ok with that. He deserves better anyways. Also, it's really annoying when people complain how he's not a starter and isn't any good. He's soooooooooo far from being anywhere near the worst of our problems that its not even funny.

Love does get rebounds. We needed rebounds in that 4th quarter. I wouldn't of minded a lineup of Collins, Love, and Gomes in the 4th quarter. Could care less about Craig Smith and how well he scores, doesn't mean anything if he can't defend or get key rebounds. I think we get caught up in visually how awkward Love looks at times with the pump fakes and the lack of leaping ability. He's 20 years old and has far surpassed what anyone on this board (me included) thought he was going to do, with having hardly any plays run in his direction. If we're going to pick him that high in the draft he deserves to be on the court in order to continue his development in an otherwise lost season
