TOPIC: Game Thread: Wolves at LA Clippers (4/7/09)

Game Thread: Wolves at LA Clippers (4/7/09) 2 years, 10 months ago #30811

Season Record: 22-55

Lottery Position: 5th worst record, 0.5 games "behind."

We will probably lose because of all our injuries and because it's on the road. And to be honest, we NEED to lose this game. We could still get the 4th best lottery position now that Memphis has passed us and OKC is only 0.5 games behind! Those extra percentages are crucial!

PREDICTION:

Wolves 108 - Clippers 111
Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

Antoine Walker: "Because there are no Fours."

Man, you know it's "that time" of the season when the board is this slow and I'm the first one to respond to my own game thread. Oh well, it was probably inevitable. Considering it was a midweek game against the freakin Clippers, it was actually decently entertaining. Plus, I always love watching Gomes own! KLove and Telfair had solid games too.

Wow, we surpassed last season W's.

Oh, and we're probably going to pick 5th with Memphis picking 4t and OKC picking 6th. Unless we don't win anything now and somehow beat Memphis in a tie-breaker for 4th.

The T Wolves were on the television and later on mute as
the Twins were on XM.

The Twins had a dramatic 9th inning, 2 out comeback from 2 down to win.

The LA announcer said during the first quarter of the B ball game, "first team to 20 wins!" You would expect bad teams playing their bench not to impliment the game very well but not being able to make baskets?

Considering it was the NBA at it's worst (Wolves/Clippers in April, almost better for each team if they lose, literally at least half of each team's good players out, crowd half-empty), I thought it was a good game. I know it wasn't good for our lotto chances, but I still enjoyed watching us win convincingly, play hard, and move the ball well. Bassy, KLove, Gomes, & Rhino all played legit. They all looked real good last night overall. Screw Miller and his boards & assists. I am usually the guy that loves dudes that are unselfish (see MarKo, Anthony Carter & early Telfair for recent Wolves examples), but in Miller's case it is simply ridiculous. At the beginning of the year I really liked Miller & kind of disliked Cardinal. Now it is completely the opposite. How can you not love The Custodian? Good game, way to finish out the season with a little bit of pride.

Good points Bonk.

And I really, really, really dislike Miller greatly as well.

P.S. We outrebounded them by 28! (62-34) Insane.

I think we will probably get the 6th spot..I don't see Memphis or OKC passing us. They have tougher teams ahead. But, who cares even if we don't have the 2nd pick for Rubio we have a lot of draft picks and some players that might intrigue some teams to move up. Plus, in this years draft the 3rd pick to the 12th pick are pretty much the same.

Yeah, MEM or OKC aren't going to pass us in the standings.

Remaining games:

MIN 23W - @GS, PHX, @DAL, SAC (I'm guessing 2 wins)

OKC 21W - @DEN, CHA, @MIL, @POR, @LAC (2 wins?)

MEM 22W - @ORL, PHX, @LAL, @PHX, ATL ( maybe 2 wins)

At the 6th spot that puts us in James Harden territory. Isn't he essentially a Randy Foye? That Brandon Jennings is starting to look intriguing.

Good first post and welcome to the board MME!

If we don't win the lottery, or if we get the sixth pick and don't trade up for Rubio/Griffin, this draft will be an epic fail.

Play last night...

Gomes caught a pass leaving him semi-open from 3. He passed it to Miller who was WIDE open from 3. Then Miller throws a pass off Kevin Love, out of bounds just at the second Love started running to the basket to get in position for a rebound. The announcers proceed lavish praise on the unselfish play of Miller who they really really hope is back next season and dump on Kevin Love for not staying in the stop he was so he could get an open 16 foot jumper.

That play was more the rule than the exception for Miller last night. I passively watched about a half of play and I saw him pass out of 3 or 4 wide open jumpers to get the ball to players in worse positions late in the shot clock.
Thank you for the baton Mr. Kidd - Pretty Ricky

There is no explanation other than he is playing solely to pad his "all-around" stats, so that he is more marketable after this current contract expires.

I just love how this is supposed to be the weakest draft in years and we have 3 or 4 1st round picks. Typical.

On top of that, imagine the irony if we FINALLY won the lottery... in the year that the clear-cut best player also plays the same position as our current two best players on the Wolves.

Ha, yes I remember that exact play. And Miller gave Love a look like it was his fault. It wasn't. I hope Miller got cred for the turnover on that. His lack of shooting is maddening. One of the strangest things ever. He has been my biggest disappointment this year. He should've averaged almost double the points that he did this year.

Wow, I just looked the box score for this game, and Miller took FIVE shots in 41 minutes. He played at least 8 more minutes than anyone else on the team, yet took less shots than every guy except Cardinal. And we were missing 4 of our best players. And he's a "world-class shooter" (McHale's words). MADDENING!!!
