After some thought I am thinking he may be the top assistant to McHale. Good hire if thats the case.

Seems decent though you could make a case the Laimbeer is too close to McHale. They are both big white guys from the same generation. It might be nice to have a little diversity in there.

I would not want him to be our head coach, but if he's just an assistant then I guess it doesn't matter too much. I don't have a lot of faith that we could land anyone significantly better. It's not like middle of the road assistant coaches are going to do a ton of stuff that will reshape this franchise, or win like an extra 10 games anyways.

I also hear they're interviewing Scott Hastings and John Koncack, with Dave Corzine as the Manager of Public Relations.

Just Curious, what are the reasons that Laimbeer should not be considered for head coach? Not saying I'm for it or against it, but he did have great success as a coach in the WNBA, he was known as one of the most intelligent players in the NBA (which McHale, for all his talent, was not thought of as the hardest worker on or off the court). There seems to be alot of support here for Sam Mitchell, is Sam known as a great intellect? (We all know about the CNN/SI poll years ago when he was voted the worst coach in the league by the players)

Wouldn't Laimbeer be an improvement over McHale - who gets several million to bitch about how hard it is to travel first class 6 months of the year?

I think I'm in the distinct minority here, so have at it!

I'd expect a new head coach to be currently or recently working in the NBA. Bill could very reasonably and justly parlay a couple year assistant run to a head coach job.

Also I think Sam Mitchell is the champion of the casual fan. His being hired would be a major shock.

Agreed. I don't think anyone around here has really campaigned for him. And I personally wouldn't even want him.

Yes, he was voted one of the worst by the players... and then took a long-underachieving canadian franchise to the playoffs with a high seed. THAt canadian franchise. Yep.

Point is, we can't make changes for changes sake. Laimbeer would be a sidestep move from McHale, who without the past with this franchise - admit it - is a good coach. Players love him, he seems to find the players' good sides and basically put them in a position to win. I know, he combined a horrible record last season but who wouldn't with this bunch of retreads as a team? After Al went down we basically had two SOLID (not good, solid) players in Love and Gomes - that was all... besides the occasional Randy Foye 30+ game.

If Mitchell and Laimbeer are considered... I want McHale as the coach.

I have to agree with you somewhat. While I would love a new, high profile coach with experience over McHale, it is apparant that many of us have simply not started drinking again after our McHale hangover.

If the discussion is Laimbeer vs. McHale, the answer is obvious. I think we can still try to get a high profile winner in here. If that doesnt happen, then I think its better to stick to our guns.
