Game Thread: SEASON OPENER vs NJ Nets (10/28/09) 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Howls: 208
Season Record: 0-0

On one hand I want to say we can win, but that's because NJ has been bad in the past. They appear to have a solid young core in Devin Harris, Yi, Brooke Lopez, and even CDR. They aren't great, but neither are the Wolves. And is Big Al going to play? Either way, this could be a close game... especially if we play up-tempo. But still, the loss of Love is going to hurt us.

Prediction:

Wolves 106 - Nets 108

If Big Al plays, we will win. It'll be tough without him.

Guards: Alston, Courtney Lee, Terrance Williams

Forwards: Yi, CDR, Jarvis Hayes

Centers: Brook Lopez, Tony Battie, Josh Boone

Possible: Devin Harris (hamstring) Bobby Simmons (flu) Najera (groin)

No Chance: Keyon Dooling

Who Cares: Will Blalock, Trenton Hassell, Sean Williams

Heres the Current roster for the nets, my predicted starting lineup:

G Rafer Alston
G Courtney Lee
F Yi
F CDR
C Lopez

I'm sitting out Harris because he hasn't played since the 13th and is predicted as POSS missing a couple games at the start of the season. Who in NJ wants to see Harris going down early because they rush a hamstring injury.

This obviously leaves alot of mins to be split at the G positon between Alston, Lee, and rookie T. Will.iams. Preseason avgs: Alston, 5 pts, 4 rbds, 6 assts, - Lee, 16pts, 3 rbds, 2 assts, - Williams, 11pts, 5rbds, 3 assts

You have to give the advantage here to the Wolves, but Williams may be hard to contain.

There is also limited roles at the forward positions right now. Yi has been posting good numbers with 13 pts, 8 rbds - CDR has also been doing well at 18 pts, 4 rbds, 2 assts. Backup Hayes is well a backup at 8pts & 2.5 rbds.

I think the advantage here has to go to the Nets, YI will have a big game. Gomes should concentrate on his defense.

The center position is locked up with Lopez avg: 16pts 8 rbds, & 3 blocks. Battie has seen avgs of 5 pts & 4 rbds, buts should be a non factor due to limited mins and old timers knees. Boone is posting the same avgs: of 5 pts & 4 rbds but could have a nice showing.

Obviously the better player here is Jefferson, but Lopez is strong right now and Big Al may be limited. Pech could throw in a matchup issue by taking him outside his comfort zone, and Hollins is athletic enough to stay with Lopez albeit prob fouling him in the process. This one is a toss up for me.

So,,, to wrap it all up.... I will be watching the televised season opener and will hopefully be watching an impressive undefeated start for the Wolves. Go MINNY!!

Of course, D Harris may show up and school our boy Flynn and than home court may not matter.

If pre-injury AL plays I think we take this one w/ Devin Harris hurt. If AL doesn't play, Brook Disney Lopez is going to have 30/20 and we lose.

I say AL plays, but in limited minutes.

Nets 101
Wolves 97

Not that it matters much ... but the Nets had the worst preseason record (1-6)

Question: Why do people call Brook Lopez "Disney?"

Do you mean Brooke Lopez?

If so, it's because he has stated many times in interviews how he and his brother love everything Disney. Have posters on their walls, watch all the movies, etc etc.

I'm still pissed we didn't draft CDR with either of our picks in the second round of the '08 Draft. I have a feeling the Wolves are going to regret that Wednesday.

I KNOW!!!

I had definitely stated beforehand that I wanted us to take CDR, Bill Walker, DeAndre Jordan, and/or Chalmers with our second round picks. Did we get any of them? Nope. Would I gladly take one or more of them? HELL YES.

I post bearing bad news.

Devin Harris will play wednesday at the Target Center and it looks like that Big Al will not.

Coach Frank was quoted over on the Nets site as saying that he will be using a 9 man rotation with a possible 10th player.

I think Yi's game will suffer a little from Devin's return, as they have not yet played extremely well off of each other.

My guess for the 9-10 man game:

Harris, Alston
Lee, Williams
CDR, Hayes
Yi, Williams
Lopez, Boone

All I can say is that I hope they limit Harris' mins on his return from injury and that Lopez doesn't completely destroy our backups.

Go wolves!

OT Win for the Wolves 116 - 110.

Ok, so a little premature on Big Al, looks like he will be playing. However, now we might not have Flynn & Ellington. I just got over flu like symptoms that started last wed, heres hoping that the 2 rooks have a killer immune system.

Of course, I do think that Sessions is more than capable of getting the starting role at PG and I think he should keep it. But I am a little biased since I moved here from WI.

I think Sessions is quick enough and smart enough to effectively guard Harris. W/out Ellington, lets just hope that Brewer continues to excel this year.

New prediction.

107-106 Wolves Win
