And yes, he has the potential.

What other areas besides shooting? An elite leader, passer, and better defender than anyone on our team isn't good enough?

Why do you think that he is a good leader? Navaro and Lorbek are leaders in Barca, he is just a role player there.
Corey Brewer is a way better defender than Ricky Rubio.

Ummmm, he starts on his National team at his age and pretty much runs the show.

Brewer a "way better" defender than Rubio? No. Brewer's "defense" is waaaay overrated.
Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

C'mon! You can do better than that... do I need to quote Pete Mickael on the 'rock star' thing? That team revolved around Rubio, despite all the talent (Navarro, Lorbek, Vasquez, Mickael) on the roster. Ricky may not be the most productive player on the team but he's the guy creating the offense.

Steve Nash had like 15ppg 10apg in his 1st MVP season. Kobe had 30ppg (if not more, too lazy to look up) that season. Kobe was easily the most outstanding individual performer in the league that year. But Nash was the guy that was most valuable.

Who is Barca's MVP? Navarro? Mickael? No, Rubio. His numbers are worse than at least 2 of his teammates... but the impact on the court surpasses anyone out there. If the team was to start over and was allowed to maintain just one player from its current roster who would you think they'd keep?

Yea, and that's not even a relevant comparison. Brewer was supposed to be a lockdown defender when we drafted him, that's what he came into the league to be. He isn't, but he's pretty good defensively. The fact that we have no interior defensive presence whatsoever hurts him.

On the other hand, Rubio does so many things that it's just a bonus that he's a good defender.

Comparing apples to oranges.

Patience people!

Instead of trying to fit Rubio into the ‘next’ Nash/Kidd/Stockton/Maravich ideal, can’t we just sit back and watch him be the first Ricky Rubio? Yes it is great that we track his progress in Europe, but to make the prediction now of whether he succeeds or fails once he gets here seems a little soon for me.

Enjoy it for what it is… instead of tracking a college prospect and hoping we somehow land him in the draft, we get to watch a player with star potential whose rights we actually own, and who is playing in the 2nd best competition in the world!

Same goes for Flynn… just because he hasn’t progressed as soon as we had hoped doesn’t mean he is a complete write off yet. Did anyone think Chauncey Billups would be a future finals MVP at the end of his rookie year in Boston? There are likely people reading this who didn’t even realise he was drafted by Boston!

My point is that lets just allow these young guys to develop before be trash them. If Flynn is still playing this recklessly in year 3, then we will have reason for concern. Lets just remember how much nearly everyone here (except daddyfatsax!) was down on Brewer when this season started, and he is arguably our most improved player this season.

AMEN. Our strongest assets are youth, raw talent, and time. Will the Wolves be winners next year? Odds are, probably not. Will they be fun to watch? I think so.

The problem we have always had as Timberwolves fans is that rather than building a young core and keeping them together while they gel into a team, we want to constantly add the missing piece, and for the last 12 years McFail appeased us by mortgaging our future for the Latrell Sprewells and Joe Smiths of the world.

There is no quick fix, guys. We're the freaking Timberwolves. Let's settle for a talented group of winners who wants to turn things around, and then let's sit back and enjoy the process. This will take time, but will be more fun when we become competitive with young and exciting players.

I will agree that it was a nice post by Aussie Wolf. However, I would like to add that some of us Wolves fans have been patient for a very, very looooooooooooooooong time. Like 20 years long time.

Guys, I just wanted to say that Rubio maybe wont be so good in the NBA and theres also a good chance that he never plays in Minnesota. Maybe, he will never became an All-Star player, I watched Barca many times this season and I am not so impressed but if you are right and he comes here next season and becomes the new Kidd or Nash or Stockton I will be the happiest Twolf here but until that happens I am pesimistic about this whole Rubio situation

Hmmm....maybe a little biased with your man love for Flynn? BTW, what has Flynn shown to make you think he'll be an impact player in the league? I think he's been a bit of a disappointment thus-far. I'm not trying to bust your balls or anything, but what exactly have you seen from the Barca games that has left you disenfranchised with Rubio?

From what I've read/seen from euro blogs it sounds like with the help of Rubio this Barca team will go down as one of the best teams of the decade (in Europe). I'm completely fascinated with his pure creativity and court vision at such a young age. In that regard he's amazing, although I'm pretty sure he's not going to be a very good scorer in the league. That's fine with me, we need a facilitator and I think this team would be so much better with a creative force like Rubio rather than a shoot first, undersized guard like Flynn.

I see Rubio as a less bulky Jason Kidd, who shows flashes of flair and creativity one would see in a guy like Nash, Maravich, or Magic.

If Kahn screws this up even more and doesn't get Rubio in a Wolves jersey I'll be seriously considering whether or not continuing to support this team.

Marco is a lucky man.

Why do everyone here thinks that I am such a big Flynn fan
I just dont see Rubio as the next big thing in the NBA and I wrote in an earlier post why.
Thats all.

This is for Bonk or anyone else interested. This Saturday, March 13 at 1:00 ET, NBA TV "European game of the week" will be Regal Barcelona vs Partizan. The game will actually be played tomorrow but televised Saturday. This will give those interested in watching a chance to see Ricky Rubio in action. From my understanding this will be Barcelonas biggest test to date in the tournament.

Everyone one on this site has been judging him on his game stats. Now is the chance to give your opinion from actually seeing him in action for a whole game.

I look forward to your the resulting posts!
