I wonder how much they would pay him?

Springfield native and basketball free agent Anthony Tolliver is closing in on selecting his next National Basketball Association team.

He said today that he likely will sign with the Golden State Warriors (where he played last season) or the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“I haven’t made a decision yet,” Tolliver said in a telephone interview, “but we’re getting there and I hope to have a decision soon.

“Once they have their final (financial) figure and years guaranteed, that’s when I plan on making my decision — unless somebody comes in late,” he added.

The 6-foot-9 Tolliver turned two 10-day contracts into a three-month stay last season with Golden State. He averaged 12.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 44 games.

I'm guessing 3 mil for 3 (9 mil total)years all three guaranteed. GS won't pay that much and KAHN will cuz he's in good shape and they are not. We'll see soon.

I think Tolliver will re-sign with GS. He just needed another team to up the GS bid. We obliged but there won't be enough minutes here for him unless Beasley falls off the deep end which is entirely possible. I don't see any middle ground with Beasley. Either he breaks out or breaks up. He's at a critical point. Hope it goes well for him and he makes it big. We need some good luck. I like Tolliver he's a cheap big with some upside and range. Worth a flyer but he'll remain a warrior is my prediction. -Pistol Pete 44 forever.
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Wonder if Anthony Tolliver is still having nightmares over this. Amare says welcome to the NBA young fella.

In all fairness to Anthony Tolliver, here's a couple of his highlights as well:

Re:Wolves looking to sign Anthony Tolliver? 1 year, 6 months ago #51576

Nice highlights, thanks.

Although, I still am not a huge fan of signing him. I think it would be like Ryan Hollins 2.0, in that we'd eventually regret giving him a "big" contract for multiple years.
Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

Antoine Walker: "Because there are no Fours."

Yes I don't see why we'd give a multi-year contract to a guy who would be the 3rd PF though his highlights were impressive.
Thank you for the baton Mr. Kidd - Pretty Ricky

The difference between Hollins and Tolliver is that Tolliver can score and shoot. He has much more upside than Hollins. I don't think we'll have both Love and Beasley on the team for more than 1 year. So a backup will be needed. Also if one is injured, we'll need some more depth. GS is probably offering 2 or 3 yrs at $2-3 mil each with probably only 2 guaranteed. If we match he stays in GS so we gotta do better. Our 3 yr $3M each probably would not be matched by GS. I like it. Beasley is shaky and could be a star or he could crash and burn. Then there's the injury factor. He's better than a D-leaguer that's for sure. Probably a good rotation player with possible starter is his upside. My 2 cents. -Pistol Pete 44 forever.

I read an article somewhere, wish I remember where? But it was saying that us looking at Tolliver shows that we believe Beasley can play SF, and we want Tolliver as a backup PF. If this is true he would fit perfect in that role. He is athletic, can shoot, play some D, and Beasley will be stronger on D at SF. This could benefit our team more then I originally thought when I heard we were looking at him. If this works out that way I am actually on board with it.

Does Beaseley at SF mean we think Wesley can play SG?

Yes, Wesley can play SG he has good enough ball handling. It's more who you can guard and I believe Wesley can guard SG's probably better than SF's at this point in his career. Beasley's actually only about 6'7" even though they list him at 6'10". He's a little slow at guarding the quicker SF's but we're better in the middle now at defense so they can probably get away with it. -Pistol Pete 44 forever

If Beasley plays SF and Tolliver is our backup PF, then that really sucks that we acquired Wes Johnson AND Webster. Ugh.

Hopefully Johnson and Webster can both play SG if this is the case. If not, more logjam.

I don't think Webster or Brewer are NBA starters. Maybe Johnson can be and he can play SG. Webster/Brewer should backup Beasley/Johnson if Johnson proves he's an NBA starter. I think the coach will make him earn it but I don't think it will take Johnson long to show that he is better than Webster and Brewer. My 2 cents worth.

PS: Gomes was not an NBA starter either so we just swapped backup players and got a younger more athletic backup.

Good points.

Although, I'm not sold at all on Wes Johnson being an NBA starting SG. He can't dribble or create.

You maybe right, we'll have to see but I don't think that Webster or Brewer can dribble or create either. Luckily we run the triangle and up tempo fast break offense and not the dribble drive offense or we'd really be screwed.

Ya true, not gunna lie I wish we would trade Brewer. We just don't have room for him. Not with Lazar and Webster on the team.

Id still like to trade the brewster but for other reasons. I dont think Lazar will start the league here, he will probably be down in the D League n mite be called up due to an injury or something.

The guy has some game, but he isnt the acquisition i was hoping the t-pups would make...

I agree, trade brewer but keep his goat. Give it to Beasley, he needs a friend. -Pistol Pete 44 forever
