That's great, but who can we give them?

I'd vote for a package of Webster, Telfair and Tolliver. I know it's not much, but hey, we'll be only getting Carmelo for 1 season...

Would he stick with the Wolves if the Nuggets did a 3 year sign and trade to give him that $65 million?

God that would be awesome.

Give them whatever. Brewer + Webster? + Telfair (to match salary) + Draft picks

I dunno, we don't have much for them, but then maybe that would make him want to stay since we wouldn't be trading away the few good players we actually have?

Early word around NBA is Nuggets will try to trade Carmelo to 1 of 3 teams: Wolves, Kings, Nets. In other words, careful what you wish for.

Unfortunately or us, the Kings and Nyets can both offer more attractive packages, but we can give better/more draft picks.

Let's give them Al Jefferson….nevermind. ummm, yea, don't know. We don't have much for expiring contracts. If it's a sign and trade give up Love! Finally...

P.S. Thanks for the heads up DFS, I just made this into a front page post... we needed something new.

Yeah, he's a legit reporter.

The thing that sucks for the teams he listed is that Melo has ALL the leverage in this situation. If Denver trades him somewhere he doesn't like, he can simply leave as a free agent after the season. Denver is pretty much screwed.

I think we have a good shot.

We have sooooooooo much cap space, so we can basically absorb Melo for nothing. If you're trading away your superstar, you either need another superstar in return, or cap space/picks. If the Nuggs are trading Melo, they basically have to resign themselves to the fact that they're blowing everything up and starting over.

If we keep Love/Beasley/Rubio, we'll be in really good shape. Wes Johnson, draft picks, and cap space might be the best the Nuggs can get in their situation. (I would only do this if we got a 3 year contract on him though).

Who can the Nets offer? Favors/Lopez? meh. I don't see Sacto giving up Tyreke.

Melo to the Wolves makes A LOT of sense.

I definitely hope so. We can surely give them our picks for next year, one of our 1000 SF's (maybe Johnson) and fillers. But it's not worth it if it's for 1 year.

Maybe the Nuggets could lie to him - tell him they're doing a sign and trade with Knicks, he signs a 4 year deal and they give him to us. He'll be mad as hell but he'll be here for 4 years

Still, if a deal goes down, Rubio would surely stay here. They already have Billups and future PG in Lawson. If they want players, it will be in other positions.

You have to wonder if this was one of the reasons Kahn traded Al for cap space and has done little since. Maybe not 'Melo specifically, but an opportunity such as this.

The Nets are frontrunners IMO. Prokhorov missed out on LeBron/Wade/Bosh - he'll try to get Melo. Obviously Lopez is untouchable but so is Rubio on our side. The Nets can absorb 'Melo just as we can. What works in our favour is that we can at least offer them Wes Johnson and picks while the Nets would have to send them Derrick Favors (I'm not sure Nuggets even want another PF when they have K-Mart and Nene clogging up the rotation).

All good points, I like it.

I'm perfectly cool with trading Wes Johnson but ONLY if we get Melo to sign a contract extension first.

But really, it would be quite stupid for us to trade anything at all for Melo without a contract extension... because you know he'd leave here after one year as a free agent. That would really suck.

Damn I sure hope so!!!

Otherwise, what the heck is the point of all our cap space? We surely aren't going to be ever signing any free agents of Melo's caliber...

The Knicks are clearly Melo's #1 option. However, they don't have a ton to trade and can't absorb bad contracts. However, Melo can sign there as a free agent next summer.

I think the Nyets are barely in better position than us or the Kings. The reason being that I think Melo would be ok with going there, so they would be more apt to make a deal. Also, they could trade Devin Harris, although I'm not sure why the Nuggets would want him? I guess it's Favors + other young guys (Terrance Williams?) + Draft picks. Also, K-Mart is an expiring contract, so they won't have a logjam at PF... plus Favors is a few years away anyways.
