If Memphis signed Josh Smith they would have a star to go with a promising prospect at each starting position.
Conley - PG
OJ Mayo - SG
Rudy Gay - SF
Josh Smith - PF
Marc Gasol - C
That would be a front 5 I'd be exited to see if I was a Memphis fan. If they replace Pau Gasol with Josh Smith that'd go a long way with the fan base.
The beauty part of this move is that there isn't another free agent memphis that makes any sense for Memphis so having to wait the 7 days wouldn't be a big deal.

Assuming Marc is 1/2 as good as his brother (and from what I've read he's bigger and a better defender) this team would be loaded for years to come with a much better foundation than T-Wolves. It doesn't sound like Memphis wants to spend any money this summer, but this would be a brilliant acquisition. My two concerns would be whether there is enough ball to go around for all of these guys and if they could defend. Mayo is a pretty solid defender, not sure about Gay, but Smith's defense is definitely suspect.

Assuming they'll play the running game, this is a great lineup. Smith is a PF... well, sort of. He was named a PF just last season, playing in a pretty undersized starting five next to a bunch of other 6'9 forwards. His shot-blocking gave him the nod at PF over Marv Williams but ideally he's a strong SF in a half-court set.

Nice work Pants. I give it a 1% chance of going through though...
