Huge Mavs-Wizards Trade! 1 year, 11 months ago #42020

Wow... great trade for the Mavs on almost every level. This is a ridiculously good trade for them. Anyone that says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about.

I have to assume the Wizards will cut Josh Howard after this season, because he has a team option. I mean, all they get out of this trade is pretty much a pure salary dump.

Mavs get:

Caron Butler
Brendan Haywood
DeShawn Stevenson

Wizards get:

Josh Howard
Drew Gooden
Quinton Ross
James Singleton
Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"

Antoine Walker: "Because there are no Fours."

Mavs clean up.

If the Wiz are serious they have to get Jamison off the books; Butler was the least onerous of the three big contracts they had. They have five guys taking up $39m next season before they even sort out Randy Foye.

And seeing as they just moved Butler for expirings (Quinton Ross has a $1m player option for next season, but meh), how do they strike a better deal for a 33 year old with a horse choking contract like that?

Oh yeah. They totally have to trade Jamison. I have no idea why they wouldn't... plus Arenas is gonna be gone too. This is gonna be one of the craziest firesales in recent history.

I can't wait to see if they resign Foye, and for how much...

Foye's QO is about 4.8m. I think the Wiz may make him the QO and see if they can match a below market rate offer. If he gets anything like serious interest he's out the door.

He could end up back in Minnesota for a reasonable price.........

That is too scary to even be joking about.

P.S. Word on the street is that Amare is going to Cleveland for Ilgauskas & JJ Hickson. Pau Gasol trade 2.0? What a steal for Cleveland.
Chuck Norris once challenged Lance Armstrong in a \"Who has more testicles?\" contest.

Chuck Norris won by 5.

Wow, that would be a huge coup. The Cavs would HAVE to do that trade. LeBron + Amare = SICK. That's the championship right there.

That Gasol trade wasnt so terible how many have thought.
Maybe, Hickson will become a good player

At the time everyone thought Gasol to the Lakers was like the worst trade in history. It only turned out "ok" in Hindsight because Marc Gasol is pretty decent. If Marc Gasol didn't pan out, the Grizzlies would have gotten basically nothing out of the trade. It was still lopsided even though Marc Gasol is good.

They also freed up enough cap space to sign Zach Randolf.

I guess you could maybe say that. It's kinda hard to base future salary moves off a trade like that when it happened so long ago. But, a fair point nonetheless.

I'd be shocked if Foye gets the QO. For $5M I'd guess you can get him for 2 years.

What a @#$# move by Washington. A couple of million in cap relief for a player of Butlers' skill is not impressive.
Thank you for the baton Mr. Kidd - Pretty Ricky

Wow you guys are on drugs if you think the Gasol trade was "ok"

1. The Lakers definitely do not win a championship without that trade. Not even close.

2. Marc Gasol will never be more than a 3rd or 4th big man on a good team, so essentially he's way overrated.

3. The Grizzlies are now paying Zach Randolph more money than Pau Gasol to do exactly what Pau Gasol did for them: get them the 8th seed in the playoffs and get swept. Isn't that exactly the reason they got rid of Pau Gasol?

Worst. trade. ever. I still think it was set up by Stern.

Wow... Washington needs to re-vamp their public image following the Arenas debacle, so they reach out and trade for the solid model citizen known as Josh Howard?

Quick, someone tell Cleveland and Miami, I may have found someone to take Delonte West and Michael Beasley off their hands.

Any other suggestions for the Washington Bullets 2010 "All Character Team"? I hear Jayson Williams is up for parole soon...?
