Real dream I had last night...

For some reason I couldn't watch the draft lottery, so I go online to view the results and we've fallen to sixth with the top three picks going #1 to Charlotte, #2 to Golden State, and #3 to Memphis.

It was just crazy because it was so lucid. I even remember thinking, "Man, Michael Beasely is going to be a Bobcat!" and "That's ridiculous that Golden State gets the 2nd pick!" It was very strange. Usually dreams are kind of wacky, but this was a completely possible scenario and the math was even correct that this would bump us to #6.

I just hope it stays a dream...

\"Belichick doesn\'t play video games -- it\'s too difficult to hold the controller while wearing his five Super Bowl rings.\"

That would suck soooooooooo incredibly bad. Ahhhh man, I don't even want to think about that. Just offhand, anyone know the odds of us dropping all the way to 6th?

I had that crazy draft dream from a while back as well (in a post somewhere in the forums.) I remember mine was incredibly lucid too... however, I did having us draft those two guys from Bradley lol. Hmmmm, maybe someone is sprinkling something into our drinks.

Oh, there is a \"nearest the pin' comp in this one!

I have a sneaky feeling the balls may drop the way of the Knicks.

Yeah... I think the Knicks or Memphis get the top pick. Or perhaps they will get the top two, which would suck.

I think the picks will go like this:

Seattle
Miami
Memphis
Knicks
Wolves

I say again, do not expect us to get #1 or #2... we get screwed in the draft all the time. We will pick Lopez, I bet. If we don't get Rose we should go for Mayo but that won't happen either.

We should go for Avery Johnson but that won't happen either... sigh.

I don't think the NBA draft is rigged. If Stern was going to pick a draft to give the Knicks a new breath of life, last year's draft was the one to do it in (Oden/Durant). This year's draft is looking like the Shaq/Zo draft where you've got two good things, then pick 3 could end up with the same career as pick 20. The draft always becomes a case of the have-not franchises making boneheaded decisions at the top (Bucks and Hawks take Bogut and M. Williams over C. Paul, even D. Williams was a stretch back then, but then again, Utah historically knows what it's doing). Plus, look at the way the last few lotteries have gone, not exactly the NBA giving away picks to its top markets:

2007
Portand
Seattle
Atlanta
(bigger bball markets - Boston, NY, Philly, no dice)

2006
Toronto
New York Knicks (the year the pick goes to Chicago)
Charlotte

2005
Milwaukee
Atlanta
Portland

2004
Orlando
L.A. Clips
Chicago

2003
Cleveland
Memphis
Denver

2002
Houston
Chicago
Golden State

2001
Washington
LA Clips
Memphis (Vancouver?)

I think you get the point. The thing is, the Wolves have been unlucky in drafts (granted, they weren't a lottery team until the 2005 lottery, even then they were the highest non-playoff entry). The thing is, the odds are just really against us. Our highest probability (calculated on Wikipedia, sorry I can't find a better source) has us at a .290 chance at the 5th pick. It's all just a crapshoot and the Wolves have had no luck, followed by no skill when they get the picks.

That is a pretty convincing argument Old Logo. Also, would Stern be dumb enough to jeopardize the integrity of the entire sport if there was ever any proof of even ONE lottery being rigged? That could potentially destroy the game. There is too much money involved. Stern's not that dumb.

I think Stern can count on some franchises making bad moves (would Miami be anyting right now if Darko wasn't touted in that draft. They had the 5th pick in a 4 man, sure thing draft...and that's if you include Bosh as a sure thing).

I still can't get over the 2005 draft. Bogut to Milwaukee I understand. He had a great year at Utah, was a legit 7-footer with range (even though everyone knew Chris Paul was the best player in the country). Then the Hawks picked Marvin Williams over Paul. Then, at the time what I thought was a dumb move, the Jazz picked Deron Williams (and, at the time Sloan said Williams just fits his offense better, and he probably does for that offense). At this point, is New Orleans savvy to pick Paul or just super lucky? I think it's the latter.

Now we have this draft and it's Rose and Beasley and then...who knows. My ticket rep keeps telling me the office says Brook Lopez, who I don't want, at least not at #3 and probably not at 4 or 5, either. At 6? Maybe. Oy, I think I'm going to have DeRok's nightmare tonight.

And with the 6th pick, the Wolves select...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (Hey, at least Lopez will be gone by then).

Re:My Nightmare... 3 years, 9 months ago #12378

So help me god if we draft \"Pyscho T\" or Kevin Love with the 6th pick.

Saying we are not going to be lucky because we have a history of not being lucky makes no sense. That would be admitting that there is some higher power giving us what we deserve. The fact of the matter is luck is merely statistics. If we have not been lucky in the past that means we have a greater chance of being lucky this time. What number do you think Rose should wear?

Stern also had a lot of reasons NOT to reward the Knicks last year. What could have been worse than Oden or Durant going into that cesspool of an organization?

Just watch, now that they have fired Isiah and are supposedly turning over a new leaf they will get rewarded in the lottery, being the important market that they are.

The Twolves have never improved their draft position in the 11 years that the team has spent in the lottery. Not sure why that would change now.
Chuck Norris once challenged Lance Armstrong in a \"Who has more testicles?\" contest.

Chuck Norris won by 5.

If I'm betting I always bet on the streak continuing not ending. Be it the Spurs, New England, or Red. I'll keep banking on history until something new slaps me upside the head.
