Nice, good for the youngster. Stellar game! The Twins pounded the White Sox:
Gomez goes for cycle

Question: "Why do you shoot so many Threes?"
Antoine Walker: "Because there are no Fours."

I hated it at first, but it seems like its decent so far. The true factor will be if any of those 4 pitchers turn out...

There are so many statistics for baseball I think every player holds the record for something. Think about how strange it is someone gets recognized for hitting for the cycle. If Gomez had hit 2 triples instead of a triple and a double he would not have made it.
But I am very happy nonetheless. I think Gomez is one of the most exciting players in baseball to watch. If he continues to improve his hitting we will have a true superstar.

We also need to factor in how the Boston and New York guys we didn't take turn out. So far those New York pitchers have been getting shelled. I like the deal. The Twins couldn't give the kind of money Santana got.

Yeah, that's basically what it boils down to. No one is worth that kind of money in baseball.

Thats the difference between the Twins and the Timberwolves. Twins management has been magic in their decision making within a limited budget. They know who to sign and they know when to let go. As painfull as it was letting Santana and Hunter go it was by far the best decision. It wasn't the yearly $ as much as the length of the contracts. Tory looks like a good deal for the Angels today but check back when he is 40 and see how happy they are.

One thing I wonder about is how important is scouting ability among the guys at the top. Because you have ex-players like McHale bumbling around. Personally I'd rather have a non-basketball GM who has a proven track record in business and the ability to delegate the scouting. It seems as if that is what Theo Epstein is in Boston.
If starting right now we had two paralell universes... in one McHale GM's for the next 6 years and in the other Terry Ryan GM's the wolves. Both guys putting in the effort they did in their primes. My money is on the Terry Ryan squad.
