Usain Bolt from Jamaica set a new world record on Saturday night in New York. I am willing to guess that most of you are not big Track & Field fans like me, but I would think any sports fan could appreciate a new World Record in the sprints.

The crazy thing is that was his 5th 100 meter dash race EVER. He has been a successful up & coming 200 & 400 runner, and finally convinced his coach to let him try the 100 in the last few months. Before the meet he said he didn't even know if he was going to try out for the 100 in the Olympics (and now said he definitely is).

I had the pleasure of watching this "live" (actually the next day - CBS had an hour show on this NY meet, but I hadn't read the results yet, so I was unaware a WR had occurred), which was damn exciting! The only negative was that CBS's usual Track play by play voice, the awesome Gus Johnson, did not work this meet (presumably because he called that Kimbo Slice thing that same night). I also have taken to Bolt since I first saw him because he is one of the very very few professional track athletes who doesn't wear the skin-tight spandex outfit, instead wearing a jersey. And it obviously doesn't slow him down!

I'm stoked to see this event in the Olympics... its gonna be awesome.

I like a lot of sports in the summer olympics that I usually don't follow year-round.

One thing I love about the 100m dash is that if you have the World Record, you can arguably say that you're the fastest person in the history of the world. How pimpy is that?

It is gonna be awesome. I was already hyped for it a few months ago, as it was appearing to be a big showdown between American Tyson Gay (defending World Champ, 3rd fastest American ever) and Asafa Powell (World Record Holder, choker in past big races). Now, we add Bolt to the mix and it's gonna be great. I also read an article today where Powell gave congrats to Bolt for breaking the record (with a 9.72), but then followed that comment up by saying "But I can run in the 6's (9.6's)". It might be the Jamaican showdown!

Wow... "9.6's" would be unheard of for a 100 yard dash time. That would be crazy. I hope he has cycled off the roids so that they don't get detected after he sets that mark!

I don't think it would be that unheard of for a 100 yard dash time, but if he ran the 100 meter dash in the 9.6's, that would be unheard of!
