Is a lead safe? 6 Months, 4 Weeks ago Howls: 45

This guy has an equation that he uses to calculate when a lead is insurmountable in college basketball. Pretty intesting. The page even has a nice little calculator.

Take the number of points one team is ahead.
Subtract three.
Add a half-point if the team that is ahead has the ball, and subtract a half-point if the other team has the ball. (Numbers less than zero become zero.)
Square that.
If the result is greater than the number of seconds left in the game, the lead is safe.

Being in the lead doesn't mean that the team are safe. not unless the game is near end. the opponent can still steal the chance of being in the lead too. so if the lead want to be safe then they have to maintain their play so that their opponent have no more chance to steal their game....

The lead is safe means that you as a fan can say with certainty that your team will win that game. It does not mean that if you are a player on said team with a lead that you can quit playing.

Well Wide World of Sports was intended to be a "fill-in" show for a single summer season, until the start of fall sports seasons, but became unexpectedly popular. So thats great to know more about this but I think that its totally safe lead.
