TOPIC: bad contracts

bad contracts 5 years 7 months ago #1985

Just curious, everyone always talks about the Wolves' bad contracts (Marko, Blount, THud, etc.). It seems that most teams have similar situations, to some degree. How about a listing, team-by-team, of each one's worst contract(s). It would put our situation into perspective. For instance, how is Boston going to manage the contracts of three stars now and still afford a supporting cast? How does San Antonio or Phoenix do it?

Hey man... first off, welcome to the forums!

Secondly, that's an interesting idea for an article. I think I might take you up on that. I've got another Wolves preview to write yet, and a few other things... but I'll keep this in mind.

If anyone else wants to do an article or research this, be my guest.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I echo CWs sentiments, Welcome!!!

CW, I'd be happy to explore this idea with you since you are the resident salary cap expert. I'd be interesting to see how we stack up compared with other teams bad contracts  Could be a lot of fun!

Welcome aboard, ogishkemuncie!
How does San Antonio or Phoenix do it?

...bad contracts? In San Antonio?? If there is one franchise really ingeniously assembling a few middle priced value-for-money quality players and a bunch of cheap but effective roleplayers around the one huge contract of a hall-of-fame talent, then it's SA!

...and Phoenix? Well, they do that by mortaging their future and acting against common sense, trading away valueable roleplayers for nothing and selling draft picks like girl scout cookies, building only on the hope that Steve Nash alone will keep them contending as long as his legs will carry him.

Now all you need to do is write about the other 28 teams, lol!

Good points. I'd have to agree that San Antonio is pretty much the model franchise when it comes to salary cap management. As for Phoenix, they have/had some bad contracts. Kurt Thomas's was pretty bad, and apparently Marion's might not be too great either, since it is rumored that they are trying to move him, mainly because of the salary due to him for the remainder of said contract.

The Nuggets come to mind when they signed Raef to a huge contract, and K-Mart...
