See here is the thing. There are far too many optimists here.
The talk that we have so much talent that is going to develop is so subjective. In comparison to last year, yup - we do have more young talent. The question is, in 2-3 years, how many other teams (That have already figured out the recipe for success) will have magically forgotten that the NBA doesn't stop after this year. Everyone else has talent too. Except they also have better coaching, superior mgmt, and a more desirable team (nobody ever wants to come here, and they never will).
So fine, we've got this young core of: AJ, Foye, Brewer, McCants (supposedly), Smith, Green, Telfailure, and Gomes.
Out of that bunch, we've got one real star - Jefferson.
We've got 3-4 players we are hoping turn out to be good players - Foye, Brewer, Green and Smith.
We've got the rest who are projected to be nice role players - McCan't, Gomes, Telfailure.
Everything won't turn out how we'd like. Out of our projected \"good\" or complimentary \"role\" players, half of them will fail. Be it Foye, Green, McNeverwill or anyone else.
So.....DRUM ROLL!
After all of this we are left with our star (who might just end up being good), we've got a player or two who would start for most teams, and a few nice role players.
Now let's add the draft....How has that worked out for us so far? That's right...Mcfail and Glen are still here. Let's cross our fingers on that. We seem to be getting better.
Oh wait, at least we've got free agency. MN is always a hot spot for professional athletes, proven by our attractiveness over the years to FA's like Troy Hudson, Hassell, and Hoiberg. All players that serve a great purpose, but are at best middle of the bench role players.
Lastly, we've got a grea...well, an average coach to put all of this together and atrocious mgmt to apply the glue.
In addition to all of this, you've got other teams out there who are doing the same thing and actually know the recipe for success. Does anyone really see us shooting past a team like San Antonio?
Sorry for the negativity, but goodness. This talk I've heard about us being a contender in 3-5 years is ludicrous. We may be close to 40-45 wins, but that's about it.
