Why is it that since Marko started playing so well talk has been that maybe now we could trade him and get out of his poor contract.
My question is for what? What will we do with the $ we save gwtting rid of Jaric? Who will we sign to replace him? Are we looking for superstars to sign or youngs to develop? If we get a good young with potential, it's only a crap shoot that he will develop into someone as valuable as Marko is now. Marko is young enough and can earn his pay if he continues to play this way. My question is what is the upside to getting rid of him?
We probably wouldn't sign anyone to replace him. However, we could resign Telfair (I'd be down with that, plus he's still very young) and we've got plenty other young guys that could use the playing time. Also, we should have a top 5 draft pick at the worst this year, which would preferrably be a point guard.
We've still got some guys with options at the end of this season, or contracts that will expire: Telfair, Gerald Green, Gomes, and Craig Smith. It would be nice to have some room under the luxury tax to resign some of those guys.
Lastly, you never know what or who could become available. It would just be nice to have as much financial flexibility as possible.
