I have updated the rules for the timberpup game on the first post of this thread. Here they are:
First off, gotta give one final nod of the head to our defending champion, Wallyworld (please beat him this year)
Now to refresh everyone on the rules (plus new rules)
1. Before each wolves game, post your guess on what the score will be in the game thread. The person closest to the actual score will gain timberpup(s) depending on how many people are participating in this game on that particular day.
2-9 people = 1 timberpup
10-19 = 2 timberpups
20+ = 3 timberpups
EXAMPLE: For the upcoming game, you guess the score will be Wolves 98, Kings 103 and the actual score is Wolves 100, Kings 107. You are off the score by 6 points, because wolves actual score of 100 - wolves guessed score of 98 points is a difference of 2 and do the same thing with the Kings which has a difference of 4 for a total of 6 points. Now say 12 people made guesses and you happened to be closest, you would get 2 timberpups.
2. Guessing either team's score exactly is worth 2 timberpups. Guessing the score of the game exactly correct for both teams is worth a 2X bonus. 2 timberpups for guessing each team + 1 timberpup for being closest = 5 X 2 = 10 timberpups. If there were say 15 people playing, you would get 2 for being closest so 6 X 2 = 12 timberpups.
If you are confused by everything I have written so far, don't worry about it. I will take care of all the scoring. All you need to do is make your predictions.
3. Every game, I will come up with a challenge that will be worth extra timberpups if guessed correctly. No need to go into details on this right now.
4. Also last season, many people made "bonus" predictions on whatever they felt like. These are mainly things that don't have a very good chance of happening but if did happen people would think you're nostradamus. I will award timberpups based on degree of difficulty and how I see fit.
Example: Good prediction (actual example from last season): I think it was mmaland who predicted the wolves and hawks would get in a brawl and Josh Smith would get ejected. Well it didn't happen, but if I remember correctly Josh Smith did get a technical in the game and I gave him a timberpup or half o a timberpup or something. Another good prediction would be predicting a triple double or something along those lines. You can really do anything you want.
An example of a bad/easy prediction would be guessing that a player will score 15 points when they average 16 points per game on the season. Even if you are very close or correct on the prediction, I probably won't give you many if any timberpups.
PLAYOFFS
-The big addition to this year's game is playoffs. The top 8 people will face off against each other in head to head matchups. The 1st seed will play the 8th seed, 2nd vs. 7th, etc just like the real NBA.
-The first round of the playoffs is best of 7, and the 2nd round and championship round will both be best of 3.
-During the playoffs, there will be no timberpups earned, the only thing that matters is who is closer to guessing the score. The first tiebreaker will be if someone guessed a score perfectly. The second tiebreaker will be whoever is least farthest away on each score. Sounds confusing but if we ever need to do this it should work fine.
-In the 1st round of the playoffs, the player with the higher seed will have "homecourt advantage". Homecourt advantage can be used only one time during the 1st round and will take 10 points off your guess. If you wish to use the homecourt advantage, you must state before the game starts if you wish to use it otherwise it won't count.
-I will still do game challenges during the playoffs, but bonus guesses are not allowed. If you defeat your opponent before the other matchups are completed, you will still be able to do game challenges and any point earned will go towards the first game of the next round.
-Guessing either team's score correctly will be worth an additional 2 points off of your total. Making a perfect guess during the playoffs will grant you a 20 point advantage that can be used at any time throughout the playoffs. Like homecourt advantage, you must state if you wish to use it before the game starts.
-There will be a one game gap between the end of the "regular season" and "playoffs".
-Regular season ends - March 28, Wolves @ Bobcats.
-Off game - March 30, Celitcs @ Wolves. There will be chances to earn points towards the playoffs for this game. Also people who do not make the playoffs will also be able to earn points and give them to whichever playoff participant they wish.
-Playoffs start - April 1, Wolves @ Blazers.
That's about it. I also reserve the right to give out timberpups for other reasons not listed above when I see fit.
Good luck
The first game of the season is December 26th vs the Thunder
