Yeah, "the word" was that Portland's negotiations with Batum did not go well, and he's not getting a ton of PT when Wallace is healthy.

Likewise "the word" was that Memphis is willing to part with Mayo, and that Indiana was souring on Granger a bit.

Here's a thought: Indiana wants Eric Gordon (as they should). We could definitely benefit from Granger, who could see his minutes handed to Paul George at SF. NOH wants young players and picks for Gordon.

We jump in and send Ridnour to Indiana, Lee, Randolph, and Ellington to NOH and we get back Granger. Indiana maybe throws in a protected 1st or 1sts to NOH and we could throw in the Utah or Memphis pick if it made a difference.

Indiana gives up Granger for Gordon and Ridnour, and NOH gets a steaming pile of hope to sell the fans.

A move like that would balance our scoring and provide Rubio with a perimeter shot maker. Plus it would not touch the assets used in the Pekovic or Gasol trades mentioned earlier.

Derrick/Brad/Wes/Martell for Pau Gasol.

The Lakers seem to be willing to make bold moves. Could something like this open the door to a Dwight trade/signing and a bridge to being good even without Kobe being 50% of the offense?

Why do you want to help the Fakers and us to get Gasoft? Worst trade ever!

I won't address the Gasol trade idea, but I like it. As far as the Gortat trade, I'll ask this-

If you guys could either get Gortat, or get Granger, which do you think would help our team more?

At this stage I'm inclined to say Granger by a landslide.

What do you guys think?

Big Howl to wolfenstein for all his great trade ideas! Too bad they are not very likely to happen. But you never know.

Granger for sure. Pekovic, Darko and Lundgren are not bad. And it's not that Gortat is a star player.

People liking the idea of getting Gasoft?! Where are you daddy?!

I did hear his voice. He had so many opportunities and now has no salary room or deal-swinging draft pick to sweeten the pot. It's literally Derrick Williams, some iffy picks, a draft bust or two and maybe Beasley (if we don't want to keep him ourselves...let's give him another chance)

No salary room? We can offer as much in expiring deals as any team could want. Beasley, Miller, Martell and AR = a Max contract. The #2 pick in the last draft and mid-level firsts to boot? What else do you want us to have, 3/4 all-stars we don't want to trade away?

The problem isn't our assets it is a number of semi-overpaid guys who've supposedly been available aren't anymore. Deng, Iggy, Monta, Gortat, Kevin Martin are all guys we've discussed and are earning their money or their teams are improved to the point that they are thinking playoffs.

It is really amazing when you go through all the teams how few players making 10ish million that teams might want to move and that we might want.

At this moment Pekovic is playing well enough that it is hard to justify Center being where we spend. Would Phx trade Gortat and a couple bad contracts for DWill and expirings? Maybe. If Nash walks out next year Gortat going it alone doesn't get you much.

games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7fjhwsm

Would we do that?

Wow. Howl to you. That basically settles everything in a few sentences.
I concur. Sweet trade idea Pants, I like it a lot. Seems reasonable/realistic enough to me, I think.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

The only issue I have with that trade is that it leaves us with not a whole lot of assets with which to trade for a SG (which probably isn't happening anyway), and it puts our SF eggs in the Martell/Wes/Tolliver basket. Not sure how comfortable I am with that, although if we fail to add a shooting guard, it leaves us with only Ridnour and Randolph's expiring deal to trade for a swingman.

Ideally we'd get a servicable swingman back in a deal like that as well, but then again Phoenix isn't gutting their roster of good players for Beasley and Williams, I don't think.

Phx has Nash, Gortat and a @#$t sandwich of role players. If Phx can't get on a roll and make the playoffs I think the odds of Nash being there next year move from 20% to 1%. If they look hopeless mid-February I think could opt to strip it to the nuts this year. Gortat is good, not much mileage but not that young. I'd rather rebuild with Williams as the center piece than Gortat.

If Kahn can pull a trade that substantially upgrades one of the three SG/SF/C he'll have put in work. It is completely unreasonable to expect an upgrade at SG, SF and C, plus even very good teams don't start 5 studs.
Honestly, I think Nash will be traded this year before the trade deadline. And then it wouldn't surprise me if they move Gortat as well. They need a total rebuild, and we should get in on that.

In a heartbeat. Even though Pau is getting older, his game will age well and he's a guy that gives us something we don't have- an isolation post game. Plus I think he's more vocal/assertive than he appears. DFS will hate this one but I would do it.
I hate Pau Gaysoft, but that would be a great trade for us. We'd be in the playoffs for sure. Love and Pau would pair together very well.

Plus Pau and Ricky of the Year are very familiar with playing together.

Would Portland do Batum and Nolan Smith for Pekovic? He's young and provides interior offense to match with the aging Camby.

This is really 2 trades but they both work independently and together.

Portland would never in a million billion years do that deal. They love Batum and (over)value him waaaaay too highly.

I would love Granger on our team.

Props to you for all these great trade ideas. Unlike Kahn, at least you are coming up with possibilities...

Well it all depends on how consistent our Center Antharkola Raniliovic plays the rest of the season. If we have those 3 guys producing solid minutes like they are now, then Granger would be infinitely better for us.

However, if those 3 guys regress to what we are used to from them (very possibly likely), then I think Gortat would help us nearly as much as Granger. Gortat is a BEAST, and legit for sure.

Damn, good convo. I didn't even bother checking this thread because of the title...I don't like Kahn.

Anyway, Wolfenstein, another fail. If NO is going to trade him, that will be the worst return they could get. Might as well let him walk rather than take that pile. Rebuilding never begins well be stuffing the roster with below average to very players on guaranteed contracts.

Gasoft is never going to play for this team. Phuck basketball reasons.

New Orleans is run by a bunch of schmucks selling junk to their fans though, right?

Throw our protected 1sts on it and a bunch of 2nds and maybe a 1st from Indiana, I bet that's a deal they'd at least consider.

You're right, it's worth a try. I certainly don't have any insight into Stern's mind other than this. So I think it's unlikely, but who knows.
