TORONTO - Fearless Timberwolves point guard J.J. Barea doesn't remember much about the second-quarter play that knocked him out of Sunday night's game at Toronto.

But he does know one thing after he left the game because of what a team spokesman called "concussion-like symptoms."

"My face hurts," he said after a 105-86 loss in which his team already was without injured stars Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio.

"I got a couple cuts in my mouth, but other than that, I'm all right."
Actually, the NBA will determine that, perhaps as soon as Monday.

Barea must pass NBA tests that are part of the league's new concussion policy before he is cleared to play again. The Wolves face the Nets in Brooklyn on Monday night.

Barea took two tests Sunday night at Air Canada Centre.

"I think I failed the first and passed the second one just now, so we'll see," he said after scoring nine points before being sidelined after playing less than eight minutes. "I'll probably play [Monday]."

Barea scored on a baseline drive in traffic. Television replays appeared to show his head hit teammate Dante Cunningham's leg, and then his head struck the floor after a collision that left him noticeably groggy as eventually he came to the bench.

"I've got to watch the play," he said. "It's bad luck. I made the shot and that was it, I was here [in the locker room]. I just woke up, talking to the doctor ...

''I was feeling good again [this season, before he hit his head]. Tomorrow, hopefully I'll be feeling better and ready to go."

Wolves guard J.J. Barea was out shooting early tonight at new Barclays Center in Brooklyn and indicated he expects to play against the Nets if he gets clearance from an NBA-appointed doctor.

Barea said he took all necessary tests today required by the NBA's concussion policy after he left Sunday's game in Toronto after he took a hard hit in the head midway through the second quarter on a drive to the basket.

"It looks good," he said as he awaited clearance from that doctor who must look at the tests and give approval.

Barea took two tests Sunday night -- he said he thinks he failed the first and passed the second -- after he experienced what a team spokesman called "concussion-like symptoms."

One more thing Barea-related: Believe it or not, but he was among the first two NBA players to receive a warning under the league's new flopping fine policy.

He got a warning for flailing his arms but not falling Friday night on a play when Sacramento's Jimmer Fredette gave him a stiff arm and got called for the offensive foul for driving into him.

The NBA considered that some over-acting by Barea.

Barea expressed surprise -- almost bordering on pride -- that he received a warning, even though he claimed the league hadn't yet told him.

Told he was warned for a flop even though he never fell, Barea said, "I didn't need to. It was a charge, wasn't it?"

The next time the NBA deems him to have flopped, he'll be fined $5000.

He'll get fined $10,000 for a thirdoffense, $15,000 for a fourth offense, $30,000 for a fifth offense.
