He started the season in such bad shape that he had to sit out 5 games for no real reason other than to get rest and get mentally & physically ready. Sounds like he was still in Champion celebration mode and thought the lockout was going to last all year ( somewhat understandable actually).

Although he was playing better by the end of the season, and his age notwithstanding, he clearly was not prepared to play in the first half of the season.
