So when you look back McHale was somewhat right about trading him at draft day. All in all he's a much better GM then Kahn. Drafting Garnett and trading for Love were great moves. All Kahn has done was drafting Jonny "Australia" Flynn and Wesley "not playing at all" Johnson. And it looks like Williams could jump into their category too.

Yes, it was a legitimate concern on draft day that his knees were not going to hold up, so they passed on him.

It was just harder for us because
1. I know for one I was excited about Roy.
2. They actually drafted and traded him for an extra million (we always kill Kahn for not doing that with his high picks when he passes on someone that others would have wanted at our lottery spots). So he felt like ours for a moment even though there was never an intention to draft him for ourselves.
3. And of course how Foye turned out.
4. The biggest killer for me is still that Roy would have been a great player alongside KG. I really wish we could have seen how that would have changed our franchise's story... oh well.

On Hoopshype salaries it lists Kobe as the top earner as we all know. But I didn't know what Roy got paid from the Wolves plus his amnesty salary from Portland put him at #2. $21,459,805

Silver lining if he never plays again is that Paul Allen paid $17 million for Roy's 3 games instead of insurance covering that! His Wolves earnings would probably get covered by insurance, so Glen would be off the hook I am guessing.

We may never get Webster compensation but Kahn did a great job of spending Paul Allen's money this off season!

Still, even though I'm mostly feeling bad for B Roy and wishing it will work out....I can't help but drift into alternate universe thought and wish it were Roy who ended up in Dallas after all, and Mayo here.

Wolves got some protection on the Roy contract, but Mayo only got 2 years.
Mayo, whose salary is believed to be about $4 million, acknowledged he was disappointed not to receive any lucrative, long-term contract offers this summer. He said he also considered signing with the Suns, Lakers, Celtics, Bulls and Pacers.

Mayo may not have wanted to come here and it would have cost the Wolves more, but it does seem strange they wouldn't even try to put that 5 million for Roy towards a OJ package. I know they were working to keep as much as possible available for Batum, so that may have been the key factor. Just seems strange to me that they couldn't have worked to get a 3 year $21 million offer to Mayo. Might have cost us getting Shved though.

How about that for a question? Would you trade Shved for Mayo right now? Mayo is almost a year older.

I'd take either. But I'd have to hold onto the 3 year 9 million dollar Shved to see how he and Rubio look for a full season.

Dallas ain't trading Mayo right now, sadly.

The best consolation that could have happened is getting Kevin Martin for the MLE in free agency next year (as was rumored to be a Wolves plan), but he is also not leaving OKC. Nottachance.

Any move the Wolves will make will probably not be a big one. I am intrigued with what Shved can do with a big role on this team. Next summer we can sign a guard for the MLE or make a trade involving D-Charge and one of our extra picks. Sadly, there isn't a short term fix. The Wolves will be fine without Roy, anyways.

Sounds like Adelman is taking the approach that it was good Roy got his knee cleaned up.
Zgoda:

The team says he will miss a month. Coach Rick Adelman on Tuesday said he expects the surgery will be only a detour in Roy's comeback road, not the end of it.

"I think it may sound funny but I think in some ways it's good that they found some things because he was complaining about that, that he felt something wasn't quite right," Adelman said. "So hopefully if he can clean that up and he can get back on the floor, he'll feel better than when he decided to do this. I think it can be a positive.

Maybe, if Pek doesn't want to stay here (don't hope so), we should try and get DH12...

And if Roy retains definitivly, there would be a couple of interresting guys out there (not stars though):
- (I'm not sure, if Mayo doesnt' want to take the FA, to pile up his value...)
- UFA:
- Tony Allen (maybe the best wing defender in the league)
- Corey (another superb defender)
- JJ Reddick
- A. Morrow (pure shooter)
- (Barbosa)
- evtl. DeShawn Stevenson (another great defender)
- Chauncy
- evtl. Ariza
- Matt Barnes

Re: Wolves Mayo interest

Jerry Zgoda: They talked about him a lot, Adelman said. OJ told me last week that they never pursued him. I think the Wolves will focused on BRoy at that point, maybe thinking Mayo was going to get a lot more than the $4M salary he settled for with Dallas. If they had known that -- there was talk he'd get at least $8M -- they might have done things differently.

Oh man, so sad: :(

Brandon Roy Has Degenerative Knee Arthritis, Contemplates Retirement

Brandon Roy admitted that his knees have reached Level III arthritis.

"Level IV," Roy says fearlessly, "is when you get a knee replacement."

Roy has made peace with the possibility that he might not return from his latest arthroscopic procedure.

"I wouldn't be disappointed either way," he said. "If it ends in three weeks, it ends. It's over. I'm totally satisfied with what I've done. I know the sacrifice and the effort that I put into coming back. It took a lot of discipline to get to where I am. That's all I care about: how hard I've worked. So I can't say I'm disappointed, that would be selfish. I was just a normal player my junior year in college, and everything since has been a major blessing.

"I've had an unbelievable run."

Thanks, MTW, for posting the link to that story. Glad we live in the days of the internet so that we can get quality articles from Oregon like this about Roy.

I don't know Roy, but honestly, I have been so impressed with him this year when he speaks. I would not have imagined he had been dealing with a self-image issue that was part of what he was sorting out in making this comeback.

Well, I still hope he can recover so he can be around the team, as I think he will be a positive leader. But his days of leading on the court may be over.

Sounds like Bears are not happy that Jared Allen took out one of their guards.

I hope the fine people of Chicago were just as upset when MN was in town and the Bulls took out our starting guard!

Get well, Chase.

It wasn't "nice" of him to make that hit, but it looked perfectly legal to me. Didn't use his helmet or anything, and it was clearly in front of the lineman. It's not like he couldn't see Allen or something. He shouldn't be suspended or fined imo.

Zgoda:
Brandon Roy shot for the second consecutive day back with the team, but isn't ready to practice yet.

Adelman said he hopes Roy will ramp up his activitiy next week if he comes through this week still feeling fine.

He said Roy looks good, but will know more after seeing him cut and move on that arthroscopically repaired knee next week.
