Yea, two things:
1) Regardless of our perceptions of it being poor value, I want them to trade for a guy I LIKE to watch play basketball. Not Disney.
2) Yes, you are correct that the D of either duo is average at best, but that was my point. Trading Love to me is only valuable if you get a two-way player able to keep up with the changing dynamic of the game (able to guard Ibaka, switch onto Lebron, able to guard Boshina, able to match Blake, etc.).
3) If Love really is going to leave like we all think, this is a good start.
4) It's really about philosophy, so it would really matter who was the coach. If you refused to counter another team and just pounded it to these two, especially when teams like OKC or the Clippers (Odom & Griff) try to go small. the drawbacks on defense might be negated by such a huge advantage on offense and the boards. Who knows though, it's a coach strategy question I suppose.
5) Stop with this "We need a PF" or "we need a SG" stuff. Coaches don't think like this. They think about who you can match up against (Hence Lebriggity playing the "4"). He can guard most "4"s and they can't guard him. I think what you mean is that you'd only trade for a more defensively MOBILE big to pair with Pek.
Case in point, is Pek the PF on the team? Because he guards Griffin, KG, Randolph, etc. while Love is hidden on the (usually) weaker traditional center. If the center is a better scorer, they switch. So that distinction is irrelevant.
