No.
Let me explain why... The Wolves have exactly 1 player who can get to the rim when the other team is playing physical: AK47. Shved and RR are terrific penetrators but get bodied up during the 8 minute stretch in the 2nd half when the refs always swallow their whistles, and are shut down. Barea... well, if you ever need an off-balance 1 on 3 contested fade away floater, you know where to look.
The issue isn't that we are a poor shooting team; at least, it isn't specifically that- it's that the Wolves get TURRRRBLE looks at the rim from the 3 point line when teams body up and are allowed to play physical. Nobody gets to the rim, and you end up with HAM shooting 8 17 foot jumpshots in 12 minutes of play, and Barea doing what Barea does.
Seriously. This team needs someone that can get to the rim when they are being pressured on the ball- and that someone needs to be strong enough to do it when they are being handchecked.
What you saw last night by Wade and LeBron is the type of aggressive physical offense that the Wolves don't even recognize.
Pek can play that game but only when he is getting the ball deep, and he is a pretty good interior passer but not good at kicking the ball out of the post. Ever noticed that? When was the last time you saw Pek hit a shooter open on the 3 point line when the defense collapsed? It's like he always holds it just long enough that his teammate is no longer open for the shot or something, for whatever reason.
Rubio creates good looks on the perimeter but he is only 1 man. Ridnour actually does some of this, and Love is pretty good at setting up perimeter shooters. But none of those guys know how to deal with handchecking perimeter defenders. You want someone who can actually go at the Avery Bradleys, Russell Westbrooks, Tony Allens, and so on of the NBA world.
McLemore fades out of games when they get too physical. He would fill a niche but I really, *really* think the team needs a guy like Oladipo who can be a physical beast that will get to the paint at will when things turn into football. As much as people think the Big Ten is physical, for those 7-10 minutes in the second half, the NBA is just as physical only with much bigger and much more athletic players.
