OK I'll jump in. Is it different today?

When I partied years ago, I drove home many times afterward. Although I was not driving on the wrong side of the road, if I had been stopped, I would have gone to jail. I was lucky.

Laws are tougher today and justifiably so, but I believe it still happens a lot. Your answers will confirm or deny that.

How can someone drive drunk you ask? When it is time to go home a decision is made. The problem is that when the decision is made we've been drinking. Thats not a good time to make a decision. I always felt in my heart I was completely capable of driving. The police wouldn't agree.

Allyson, you are a gem and I am proud of you for being responsible.

I'm sure it happens alot. And the laws are definitely tougher than they were years ago. Last year, a friend of mine was picked up for DUI even though she wasn't driving. She passed out in her car at the gas station, and becuase the keys were in the ignition, and she was in control of the car, they towed her car and booked her. Laws are important, but sometimes to the extreme. In my friend's defense, she was wasted, but waiting for a ride, trying to stay warm when she passed out in her car.

I don't know if I would say that I'm a gem. I mean, there are other reasons that I haven't driven drunk than just being responsible and deciding not to drive. But thanks, your pride in me is much appreciated.

Naw.... you're definitely a gem.

The thing is... do you stand by a measurement of .09 BAC being called \"Drunk Driving?\" Basically, is \"drunk driving\" anything above the legal limit of .08 BAC? Legally and technically, I suppose it is. I'm not defending drunk driving by any means, but it is possible for people to be able to operate with little or no impairment all the way up to .12 - .15 or so BAC. Granted, that's for people with very, very high tolerances. However, 2 beers in an hour can put your BAC around .08. Does that make someone drunk? I guess it depends on each individual person.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

The fact of the matter is that it is a crisis. Most traffic deaths are alcohol related. How do you get them off the road? Who determines if they are fit to drive? Are the rules too strict or too loose. As you stated, CW everyone is different, some can drive and some can't and some sorta can and some sorta can't. Is it our right to drive if we drink and feel we can drive or is it our responsibility as a society to enforce the strict laws we currently have in force.

I believe the bottom line is we need to do whatever possible to lower the horendous number of innocent deaths that occur each year on the road. If this causes major inconveniences to our partying public, so be it. If it takes an army of busses, taxis, designated drivers or staying home and it succeeds in saving lives than we have done our job.

The reason for my survey was for everyone to look at themselves in the mirror. I know what I did when I was younger and I don't think the world has changed that much since.

People on the forum ask why? why? how can it happen? The ugly facts are though that if you drink and drive, it can happen to you.

Very deep. And I totally agree. It's pointless deaths that make everyone ask why, and you did a good thing by suggesting that we all look at ourselves in the mirror.

Drunk driving has affected my life personally, which is probably a reason why I will never drink and drive. But, some people can have a few drinks and still drive home. Heck, my stepdad can drink 4 long islands and blow a .02 But, would I trust him to drive? No way! It definitely depends on the person. And a BAL should not be the determining factor if someone is \"drunk\".

You can add me to the list of people who have never driven drunk.

I can't pat myself on the back too much since I'm anti-alcohol, though. Kinda puts me in that category by default. It causes waaaaaay to many health issues.

Also, after what happened to Malik, I would think that drinking and driving would be a major no-no for any Wolves fans. In a way, we all lost a family member to drunk driving that night. Horrible.

I had an incident involving drinking & driving which affected me personally in 2005...I haven't driven drunk since then.

But to answer MMalands query, yes, it is still wayyyy too common. Some people do it all of the time and don't even think much of it.
