Derok,

Any idea why it keeps showing posts that I've already read as unread when I come back to the forum at a later time? For example...

If I read all the new posts on the board, close the browser, and then come come back later (it doesn't matter how long you are gone,) I have like half the threads telling me that they are new messages when in reality I have already read them all...

Any idea?
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I'm not exactly sure, but I have seen some of the same thing. I don't know if it's a cookie issue and the site only keeps track of what you've seen every so often. It's not like every thread is \"new\" right? Maybe the board has some sort of internal clock that evaluates what everyone has read every few minutes or hour? I can't say for sure.

Either way, it appears that the \"latest posts\" and \"unread posts\" have some sort of lag on them. For most people this probably isn't an issue, but I can see where it would be annoying for a post-whore like yourself. I'll search around and see if I find similar complaints and if there's any way to fix things to make them more instantaneous.

I think I may have found the problem. For some dumb reason this board doesn't understand that when you're the person who made the post, it's not a new post to you.

So if you post to a thread, leave, and come back, the site will tell you that you haven't read that post and it comes up as something \"new\". I'm far from a genius when it comes to boards. I know how to install them and make them look nice, but forget about coding that kind of stuff.

The \"show latest post\" link up top seems to be fairly accurate though. So if the current system bugs you too much, you can always use that. Your own posts will still show up, but at least you'll be able to see that it's yours and not click through to it.

Hahaha that's so true. Probably pretty sad, but true nonetheless.

Anyhow, thanks for the responses... much appreciated. I'll try out the \"Show latest post\" link for a while and see which way is best.

On the main page, there is a button on the bottom-left that says View All Posts as Read or something like that. So when you are all done and caught up, just click on that button, and then when you come back to the site the next time, everything new will be the only things marked as unread.

Wow thanks! That will definitely help the cause. It's annoying having to go into every \"new\" thread and 75% of the latest posts are ones that you've already read.

It was annoying to me too. Sorry about that email, DeROK. I kind of pointed out the same issue without checking out the help section first.

Ahhhhhh this is soooo retarded.

I did what Bonk said (Clicked \"Mark All Forums Read\") just a little while ago.

I just come back and now there are a good dozen threads saying they have new messages that aren't actually new.

The heck???

Same here.....I am struggling with this board, I'm not gonna lie. Not being able to just go right to my unread messages is KILLING me....especially when I always check this message on like 1/3 of my screen and have to constantly alt/tab back&forth during work...

I'm not sure what to do about that. I'm not having that same problem as CW after testing it out. We'll see though as it hasn't been that long since I marked everything as read.

I'll check around and see if other people have been having this problem with their board and what they did about it.

After doing some searching, it appears that there are a couple of bugs on this forum that are being worked out. That's not surprising as this software is a beta version. I'll keep upgrading the site as new versions are released and hopefully these issues will be resolved over time.

Ok, they actually just released a major upgrade, so I've installed it. Things seem to be working better. I know that I haven't seen any of the random \"new\" posts that are actually old yet. We'll see. Let me know if it's working for you guys.

After watching the forum today, I haven't noticed that anyone else's posts are showing as \"new\" when I'd already read them.

However, I still have the problem where I'll post, leave and then comeback, and my own posts from last time are coming up \"new\".

Basically, when you see something new, just check an make sure it's not your post. It will say if it's you or not on the far right by the \"lastest post\" column.

Otherwise, I think this uprade seems a lot less buggy.

Wow yeah... thanks for your hard work DeROK. From what I've noticed tonight it's already much better and improved. Knowing that this application is still in it's infancy... I can work with that. Thanks for the patch update.
