The Battle for the right to represent the Red-Headed-Stepchildren of the league.
The Eastern conference and all the teams associated with it are already cast aside at the onset of the season. The media is declaring Spurs vs. Lakers the finals match, with the real finals set as a sort of cool down for the champs.
The Daddy doesn’t buy into it. While Detroit or Boston may not beat either of them, they are both superior defensive teams and they will take either team to the limit. Now, let’s get to it.
Sheed vs. Da Kid: The Daddy likens this matchup to an Alien vs. Predator death match. For me, this is the match up to watch from here on out. First, we have Sheed. Hated by most, loved by few outside of Detroit – the man is complex. The Daddy would venture to guess if he had his own blog we’d enjoy quite prophetic insight as opposed to the normal witty, simple humor of some other players. Sheed has every tool at his disposal that Duncan has, that Hakeem had, that KG has, that McHale had…yet he just never decided to put it together. Content to be a very good player, this situation is where we will be privy to enjoy HOF Sheed performances.
We then have Da Kid. Loved by most, hated by few – criticized to no end. More tools at his disposal than possibly Sheed, yet he too fell into the contentment of being one of the best, instead of THE best. One would never guess this man doesn’t have a college education as he articulates himself very well (outside of his profanity filled, saliva drenched shouts during the game) and exhibits a high level of intelligence.
This match up is between two of the game’s most versatile big men (Dirk being the other) and is sure to delight us lame viewers who have no life during this time of the year (well…fine. Or any other time of the year). Rip, Chauncy, Pierce (Not so much Ray) may hold the series scoring crown, but this series will be won based on who prevails out of this matchup. Disagree if you will, but if KG is pulling down 15 boards, putting up 20-25 pts, throwing 3-6 assists, blocking 2 shots, and stealing 2-4 balls – Detroit is going home. If Sheed is dropping 3 treys a game (Thus bringing KG away from those rebounds), grabbing ten boards a game, blocking a handful of shots, and controlling the tempo with this defense – KG’s quest will be thwarted and KG4LVP will be delighted once again, happy to play the skin flute with Kobe for the remainder of the playoffs.
