Regardless of how you feel about the trade, Kevin Garnett has been the face of Minnesota professional basketball for 12 years. He was my Idol as a child, and I have met him a few times every year since I was 8 years old. To say I am ecstatic that he could finally win an NBA championship is an understatement, as he always gave his all for this team, and if you actually went to games that he played in (besides early morning games) he always hustled more than anyone else on the court. For a guy that single handedly turned Minnesota basketball into something worth talking about, I can in no way feel remorse about how he left, and I feel like all the other hardcore wolf fans feel exactly the same way. Yes, his contract may have hindered our chances at fielding a better team, but by how much? I mean almost every team only has the MLE and LLE to convince guys to join their team, and we had that same chance. If McHale Doesnt do the under the table deal losing a ridiculous amount of draft picks, or marbury doesnt force a trade, or even if Spree thought about letting his kids starve for a night, its possible that great things could have happened for KG here, but with the way things played out, it was time to let the man go. He was more loyal to this team than any basketball player is to any team in the NBA, which in a small market is a huge accomplishment. KG finally got the team we wanted him to be on this year, and even though it was in Boston, it feels like one of us has finally done it.
With that, I say Congrats Kevin, and thank you for the most entertaining 12 seasons in Minnesota basketball history.
FANTASTIC post. I couldn't agree more. Congrats KG, it feels amazing to see you on \"top of the world\" and \"certified\"!!! I wondered if this day would ever come. So happy for him & the C's.
