I figure I should probably report back from my Boston trip with a short recap of the INCREDIBLE game experience last Friday night...I'm going to try & keep it real brief.
- We got to TD Banknorth Garden early. Like at 6:05, and the game began at 7:30 - and the place was already nuts. I could not believe it. The Pro shop was just jam packed, you could barely even walk around, and there were already huge lines to get into the arena. By the time the doors opened at 6:30, the lines for the 2 entrances were literally hundreds and hundreds of people deep, extending all the way OUTSIDE. I could not believe it. I have never seen anything like it at a sporting event, in terms of gigantic lines to get in right when they opened the doors.
- My girlfriend had her MadDawg jersey on. Sure enough, the Dawg spotted us when he was warming up, and came right over to our seats, chatted with us, and snapped a picture. What a guy. It was pretty awesome, all of the people around us were stunned that an NBA player would see someone wearing his jersey and walk off the court and over to her to chat for a few minutes.
- The atmosphere was just off the chain compared to the Target Center atmosphere. The difference really struck me as amazing. Everyone is so into the game - paying close attention to every play and detail. Most people are sitting on the edges of their seats, cheering and yelling...as many of you know, at the Target Center-not so much. And the number of people wearing jerseys and wearing some sort of Celtics garb was about 5x that of people sporting their team's gear at Target Center. That was cool to see as well.
- The cheerleaders are wayyyyyyy hotter. And much, much better dancers. I wasn't that suprised by the increase in hotness, but the talent level and performance was just tons & tons better. They performed multiple times during timeouts, and they just \"danced\" so much more than our chicks. It makes our girls look like they are moving in slow motion.
- I could not believe the HUGE ovation Gomes & Al got. Bassy got moderately to heavily booed, but when Gomes name was announced, the crowd had a huge and super long ovation, and then when Al was announced, it roared even more, with most of the patrons on their feet as well. I was very impressed. The fans just seemed to LOVE Al, even during the game. Antoine got quite a few cheers, mixed in with some boos and heckles as well, and to my suprise, Gerald Green was cheered on pretty strongly.
- As far as the actual game, well we all know how that went. Props to my girlfriend for shelling out some good $$ via craigslist months ago for our tight 6th row tix. The one interesting thing I saw that from what CW told me wasn't captured on tv was Gerald Green freaking out when he got yanked by Witmann early in the 4th quarter. Otherwise, the atmosphere was great, and so was the performance by the Wolves. KG flippin out at the end was completely awesome live in person. The place was just chaotic during those moments right after the game. It was an awesome night. Everything I hoped it would be, and more.
To conclude, I know I basically said that everything about the game (fans, atmosphere, cheerleaders, etc) was better than a Wolves game. It may sound like I am trying to brag or something, but I really am not at all. It just was the truth. I was actually suprised my how much more of a \"big event\" it felt like than your typical Wolves game. Everyone there is just so into it and the total game experience was just fantastic. Dammit, I wish I lived closer to Boston...
