So the criteria for you is that your team has to have the best record??? Well let's look at the numbers:

Kobe is averaging 28.6 ppg 6.4 rpg 5.4 apg
Paul is averaging 21.5 ppg 4.0 rpg 11.5 apg

The Lakers are 1 1/2 games out of first place in the west with 5 games left including one against the Hornets...

Kobe is double teamed and will always draw the best defender from every team...teams scheme \"How can we stop Kobe Bryant\" Not too mention Kobe getting to the Free Throw line each and every night...

Paul is a PG so he naturally will not always draw the best defender each night...plus having West and Chandler down low running alley oops and fade aways bloat Paul's numbers on the assist...

When people look back at this generation of players much like the 80's /90's they say was Jordan's era...they will look at the late 90's to the mid 2000's and the first name that many people will remember is Kobe Bryant...

CP3 is having one of the best seasons by a PG (EVER!!!) on a team that is not as talented overall as the Lakers.

Anyone who has been nearly beat up several times can't win the award. Childs, Reggie, and Ray Allen (to name a few), have made Kobe tear up.
